Linseed Oil Coats

Hi fellow cue enthusiasts,

How many coats/how much Raw Linseed Oil would it take to finish a cue? I'm playing around with a cue which essentially has nothing and it just bare wood.

I've applied some pretty thick coats of oil last night and left it and this morning the cue was completely dry. I then applied again early this morning and the cue again is dry.

Applied more and pretty confident it'll do the same thing.

Any suggestions? And am I on the correct track

Not a cue. But I've applied three coats of linseed oil (boiled) with good results. A day apart.

But you're meant to use raw oil for cues because you're touching it. But apart from that is expect it to be similar?

Ok that's good to know. I generally do fine re oiling cues but never done one with almost no moisture to begin with. Yeah, I've handled cues with boiled and they feel a little tacky in comparison to the raw stuff so I just stick with that now

apply thin coats until the whole cue feels right
then maybe one for luck
but always thin coats as it takes extra work to remove

I'm not very experienced, but I did refinish a cheap fleabay cue a while ago, raw linseed oil in thin coats worked best for me. Took a few days to build up the coating, and i just kept the light coats up until it didn't absorb any more. Ended up with a nice light hard finish, then I knocked most of the shine off with 600 grit wet and dry, then a light polish with 1500 grade to give a very smooth finish but still tell it's wood.

I tried boiled linseed oil, but wasn't fond of the result. I think it dried a little too quickly and was a little too thick in the end, so that came off.
