How to find a cue?

Hi Snooker friends.

I feel completely lost with all the different variations of Snooker cues. Actually it is quite simple. I love the game and want to start playing and practicing with my own cue. The last 3 years I have been playing with in-house cues in my club. Do you have any advice for me how I find a suitable cue? What are the most important things I have to take into account when choosing a cue? Length? Material? Tip size?

I remember John Parrott saying to buy the best you can afford. Not sure I agree with that but I wouldn’t buy one of those cheap ones you see which are nice and shiny and have the signature of a professional on the butt.
Best advice is to go to somewhere where you can “try before you buy”. Sadly there’s not too many places like that. Assume you’re in the UK? One of the best places to buy a cue is Greenbeize in north east of England. Google it and you’ll get exact location.
if you can’t travel to somewhere you could ask some of the guys at your club to have a look (and maybe a shot) at their cues. Most important thing is it’s got to feel right in your hands. Not too heavy and not too light.
Average specs for a cue are:- Length 57/58 inches. Weight 17.5/18.5 ounces. Tip size 9.5-10mm.
If you’re fairly new to snooker you can probably buy an average sort of cue and through time get used to it.

Thanks a lot for taking time answering. Unfortunately I am from Germany, as far as I know there are no shops where I can do "try before buy". My budget is limited to 1000 euros for a complete package including cue, case, extensions, etc..
A friend of mine bought his cue online from Belgium at https://www.acuerate.be/. But again, there are so many cues and I don't want to buy just considering money.

if you buy online, try and find a shop that shows you photos of the actual cue you are buying, not some general placeholder images.
i bought my first cue online recently, and i had enough information about the cue before buying, that i felt like i knew what i was getting and why i made my choice.

(most of my choice of seller and cue brand was based on information i found on this forum ;-) - i went for a ton praram cue)

Contact j6uk he's a member on here, he will have or make you a cracker, for a fair price. He's in Poland so postage wouldn't be insane also.

He's A very good player, and knows a nice cue. he tests all his cues in the process of making them from scratch
