If you're not 100% sure that you want a 27mm butt then it would be better to get it thicker. Simply because it's no problem taking it down to the right size. Unlike trying to splice wood onto it to get it thicker
Dont like slim butt personally, 29.5 about right (no thinner than 29 where the grip is cause they normally start tapering down from the very base)

Very good post, IMO; just one problem with getting the butt thicker: Khizzy lives in India. Will it be simple/practical to get the butt diameter reduced in India or would he have to send the cue back to the maker? If it's the latter, then it could be prohibitively expensive to get the job done. I only live in France and there's nobody here who could do the job, so If I've got work needing done on a cue, I've got to bring the cue over or send it to the maker. Costs a lot and wastes time too. From India, it'd be worse, I think.

Not sure about how difficult it is to find someone to do it wherever he lives but not too specialist a job, wouldn't have to be a cuemaker. But the best bet I suppose is to try cues with different size butts and be sure before you order

          100% agreed, pal.

Well, I went to see John Parris on Saturday and caught him just as he was closing up. Really nice guy; had a lot of time for me and was quite happy to discuss cues and let me try a range of different specs on his practice table. Lovely cues. I tried a longer cue (60") and it felt ridiculously long, so 58" is fine for me. I was surprised that the different weights didn't make a huge amount of difference when playing a shot; I honestly couldn't really tell the difference between a 17oz cue and an 18.5oz cue. I wasn't expecting that at all.

I could've picked one up there and then, but I was going out in London that night and couldn't risk leaving my new purchase in a bar! So, I am leaning toward asking Trevor White to make me one.

Thank you to all for your advice; you've all been incredibly helpful!

If you do get Trev to make you one, you won't get a better cue!
