  • JP Mannock Spec

Im making a Mannock replica and wondered if anyone who owns a Mannock could give me the spec of the splices please.

What i require is the measurements from:
    1) End of the butt to the top of the 4 point splices and the bottom points.
    2) Top of the front splice and the depth on the butt end.
    3) Top of "flat" on butt.
    4) Any pics that would be good reference.

Many thanks to any who can help.

More pics here if you look for em.

There's one on ebay Item number: 300290415172 now.
Look at old auctions you'll see loads of pics.
I'll look at my old pics see if I have any.
The taper is unusual on Mannocks it sort of levels out.

I can't help with the specs, but I know Paul Roberts of Stamford Cuemakers has a Mannock; being a cuemaker himself, he might be the best person to contact. He's a nice guy, but very busy, but if you ask nicely...

      Good luck, Dan

I just like the design of the cue. And to have something to try to replicate is a nice challenge.

As ADR says, they do vary.

As a rule, the top ebony splices are approx 23" to 25" long, but about 24" is fairly common. The tips of the lower hand splices are approx 16" to 17" long, and, these tips usually end up at about the point where the ebony machine spliced fingers end, although again, I've seen these just below and just above this point. The front splice is normally about 7.5" long to approx 9" long, but rarely over that.

The flat on the butt is quite long, due to the style of badge used. These can be as much as 4" on some I've seen, although they're often worn and a little bit rounded off due to wear.

What timbers are you using for it???

Thank you Trevor. I will be using 4 point Tulipwood splices and a single snakewood front splice. I already have a very nice maple machine spliced cue that is 22" to the points, which are all even. So it wont be exact, but it will look the part. ADR can supply a badge too which is good news.

I have seen your ones (Not in the flesh) and I fancy recreating a Mannock as it is a pretty cue and i also have the available timber.

Aren't you going for a thuya burr front splice, like they were originally???

Also, what type of badge is it that Andrew can get you???

Another thing, you can definitely make the length of butt like the original, if you need to discuss it, give me a call tomorrow and I'll explain.

I would like to try thuya burr. The only reason i have not gone with it is i have a piece of unfigured snakewood that i can use. But will look around for some Thuya. I believe Andrew can get a reproduction Mannock badge which he mentioned on the forum a long time ago.

Thank you for the offer of advice. I wont trouble you tomorrow as i have a awful cold at the moment. But may call on you next week if you are not too busy.

                      regards

Tony Glover has sent me a few Mannock badges which are absolutely perfect and he uses mother of pearl which looks amazing.
There are loads of Mannocm pics on my facebook group called antique snooker and billiards cues. I have uploaded loads, Jeff Cundy and Gordon Radford have loads loaded up quite a few different mannocks. Worth a look
