  • cue rattle in the ash shaft

Hi all, what could be the reason for the cue rattling in the shaft area? I see no visible cracks in the shaft. The ferrule is tight. It's a 3/4 cue. When I remove the butt of the cue and check just the shaft by tapping on it, I hear a tinny noise or a rattle. I hear this noise on every shot I play. The cue was stored in a cue craft case for the past couple of years.

What could be the reason? It's a mac cue. Thanks.

As it’s not the butt end it won’t be the weight ,more than likely it’s the brass joint in the shaft area ,probably a hard piece of glue that’s come lose .

Thank you. What would that cost to get repaired? I hope it's not too expensive. I am planning to send it to Nagee cue master here in Mumbai as sending it abroad would make the repair too expensive considering the two way shipping fee and possible import charges later.

I have no idea how much it would cost ,it’s a case of taking the joint out ,cleaning it up and re fixing and gluing .There’s a few cue makers on here that will know about this sort of thing ,I’m sure there’ll post in .

Could any of our resident cue makers suggest what it would cost to fix this rattle in the cue? Thanks.

Thank you. I get a good picture from this.If I assume the shipping cost to be 50 quid one way, it works out close to 150 quid all in all.

I don't think so. The cue is a stunner. A change in temp might have caused the glue to come loose. This summer was extremely hot too.

This is just what I think has happened too.
It shouldn't be an expensive repair but hard to say what someone else will charge.

Richy from Mac cues said this:

Clean the joints with autosol cream and 0000 wire wool. I did the same and the joints look new and the rattle in the cue miraculously vanished too. Richy is a top guy. Saved me some money too. I was about to send it for a repair. A simple DIY job was all that was needed.

If the glue was loose, the joint would not lock. But, in my case the joint locked perfectly. So, dull and un-clean 4 year old joints was the reason.
