  • Cue purchase - India

    Hello guys,

I am trying to purchase a 3/4th cue in India, any leads on where to purchase in Hyderabad or online? Budget is 20k.

Snooker Alley has very few options for my specifications (18-19oz, 57", 3/4th).

    Thanks.

Welcome to the forum. I am from Hyderabad too. Snooker alley as you said have good options. Av billiards might have some cues. They are based in Bangalore too.

Haha. You might find a local Indian hotel that makes those.

Good luck. Where in Hyderabad do you play? I play at TCSA.

I have started playing recently after a long gap of 3-4 years, I have played for 7-8 years earlier. I am playing in a local snooker parlor as of now, planning to visit TCSA and pay the membership. Want to badly improve my game. Heard that it is 5k per month.

What is your experience playing at TCSA?

Have you checked into importing a cue and what tax you would have to pay ? There are some members here who advise you where you might locate a suitable cue in the UK if your choice is limited in India . Thailand might be a consideration also. If you knew what exact weight and length and cue tip size you preferred and balance point there might be options

Good to hear. The monthly fee is 4k. They have 4 full sized tables in good to fair condition. I prefer it because it is not crowded and there is no smoking/betting etc.

I am looking for a place where smoking isn't allowed and where i can practice 3 times a week. Do you generally find an opponent to play with?
I might see you soon at TCSA

It's been quiet for the last 2-3 weeks. Very few people to play against. But you will find five to ten people to play against, usually. See you soon.

Out of interest , what’s the standard of players you have in your club?.
Is there many kids coming through ?.
I see India as a sleeping giant in regards to potential players of a professional standard .

The number of kids playing Snooker in my city at-least is very low. Mostly adults here. We have some very good talent here though. For instance there is one Pro from our city on the main tour this year. One boy from our city representing India at the under 16 IBSF world Snooker championships right now in Romania. Another former pro from our city plays at the Ding Junhui academy. There is a lot of talent but I think our climate is not ideal for Snooker.

                            Thanks for the reply.

Just purely on the numbers playing I’d expect some players to come through. Like the Chinese it would need a structured system in place to make the most of that though .
Players would have to come over to the UK full time at some point to really have a chance to make it.
It’s probably going to need an ex pro to set up an academy type club to really make an impact in India or the UK.

Is that U16 kid good enough to beat his rivals from the rest of Europe ?.

I hope for the best. His highest break in practice was 89 and 50 something in match play.
