  • Looking for a rubber butt protector to fit a Jason Owen thread

    Hey, guys,

I'll be getting a Jason Owen cue in a few months, but in the meantime, I'm searching for a butt protector that would fit the thread in the SD joint. I read on another thread that Jason's joints are the same as the ones used by Master Cue, so I was thinking of getting one of these if I can't find a rubber alternative. Any thoughts?

I had emailed Jason prior to my cue order to see if butt protectors were something he made/sourced, but he didn't.

A friend got a Ton Praram cue some years ago and it came with a brass spiral plug that fitted in the butt "when not" using an extension. It stayed in the butt till the first use of an extension and for the years following it has resided in the cases unused

If you want to protect the end of your cue and if you are playing in a place without soft flooring, try the following: put the butt on the top of my shoe and never drag the cue on the floor as you walk around anyway
    Up the TSF! :snooker:

Green Baize usually have these. If not, Woods do, if you don't mind the wait

I had actually messaged Stu Green a while back asking if he supplied any to fit a Jason Owen cue, but he wasn't sure of what thread Jason uses. The only problem with the plastic Woods ones is that I've found they come loose very easily.

Cut a small circle of double sided duct tape or similar and use a large tap rubber washer' trim excess duct tape around edges of rubber washer before sticking ... works a treat. Another simple solultion is to use a chair leg rubber protector as sold by Woodies etc. Think outside the box

If its a rubber one you want to use , it doesnt need to be threaded, one of the standard rubbers ( with a bung, will push in and twist out

These are good you can taper the bung with a sharp knife or tip trimmer to fit the thread pattern better

Hey, thanks for these! I might get these as a fallback if the Master Cue butt protector thread doesn't fit.

Jason quoted a full ebony butt and an ash shaft as £450 plus £45 postage, which was about €560 for me.
