Sorry! My most profuse apologies, I was thinking of cues and thought you meant that the cues you'd had up to now were "dummies" and wasn't sure how to interpret that. Now I understand what you mean! It was a good joke, just a shame you, and Rob, had to explain it to me! Shame on me.

Don't you worry about it. Just buy me a new top cue and will "accept" your apologies

            I'm not that sorry!!

You've got a Parris, a good playing Northwest, a Trevor White on order and a new Dave Coutts coming ... what else do you want, anyway?

No, I've never heard of a Mastercue MasterPiece, and custom made to boot! I'd be interested in seeing that, if you've got any photos.

Yes, you don't see many of those. When I visited Mr. Ukrit of Master cue at his work shop in Bangkok he explained me its comparable to PARRIS ULTIMATE in terms of the making and the raw materials. in deed its lovely cue with great stiff ash and mirror top class finish and great attention to small details. took him 16 weeks to make it, but was worth it. will upload some pics tomorrow or later this week

Ok, nice one, Asi. Always interested in seeing new cues, especially top class ones.

Hi Keith, could you explain what 'natural taper' means? Does that mean perfectly conical from butt to tip as opposed to 'standard taper' which I believe (these days) means a bit thicker and cigar-shaped? Or are 'natural' and 'standard' both the same?

I imagine making a perfectly conical cue would indeed be a test of ability for someone using the hand planing method.

What I understood from the term 'natural taper' was that it was the cuemaker's choice of taper, and not one specified by the customer. This means that you trust the cuemaker to choose the best taper for the cue rather than imposing your demands on him and the cue. That is why I said it is a compliment to Robin's ability.

I think that a 'standard taper' is just a term used to indicate that no special requirements will be taken into consideration when making the cue, but I imagine that a 'standard taper' might differ from one cuemaker to another.

So, I guess that 'standard' and 'natural' might be the same after all; I think that it must depend on the cuemaker and the cue!

Ok, i thought it might have been a special cuemakers' term so I was curious.

It is a cuemaking term, but I'm not a cuemaker!! I've seen and heard it before, but I don't think it's a 'special' term, it's just a description they use.

I've seen it most often on Mike Wooldridge's site, as he offers many possibilities when you order a cue, and it's a good way of explaining that it's his choice of taper and not yours (!), no offence to Mike!

Cool. When I checked out Mike's shark series recently he was offering 'standard' and 'slim' tapers. I took slim to mean basically conical, and I guess It might be good for pool players or billiards players wanting a touch of whip in their cue.

I think that most "standard" cues made by the top makers are "conical" in shape anyway, unless someone requests a "cigar-shaped" cue, or the cue would be too whippy made with a 'standard' taper. I would say that you're right that a slim = thinner than normal taper would be for players that like a bit of whip in their cues, or for players who just like a slim cue.

Hope this helps, & if I'm wrong, then I hope Mike or someone'll correct me!
