Hope this helps, & if I'm wrong, then I hope Mike or someone'll correct me!

I appreciate your info, it's very interesting. The reason I think that top cue makers' 'standard' is more cigar shaped is because Parris describes his shafts as being cigar-shaped. A lot of pics I've seen by other top makers seem a bit cigar shaped also.

Maybe one of our resident cue makers can shed a bit of light on this, could we could start a new thread?

A cigar-shaped cue would give you a slim butt and a slim tip, with a wider shaft, which gives more strength to the cue, so there are reasons for making a cue like this. However, the cues I've seen made by top cue-makers now tend to be "conical" in shape, and, when I've spoken to them and they've mentioned a cue they've seen or had to work on that is "cigar-shaped" it's been spoken about negatively, as if it's a compromise cue, or a badly chosen shaft that's been used for that cue.

Perhaps you're right, and one of the cuemakers could help out with their opinion on the subject. It's always good to have an expert's opinion.

Ok now I understand. Being from Oz I've seen several Parris cues (new and old), but I haven't seen Wooldrigde, Robin, TW et al except for pics.

Parris described his cues to me as 'a bit cigar shaped' when I ordered a traditional cue 5 yrs ago, and I've expressed my opinions on that cue before

I asked for 'standard' with the cue I've ordered from Robin Cook so either way I think I'll get whatever makes a top playing cue.

              Robin Cues

You are right that not all of those 4 different looking cues from Robin I got this year was only for my own use, 3 of those went to other good Players here that owning also other top makers cues from the "best" list that can find in this forum...

When looking the cues photos on this forum can understad that pepole are realy putting too much importancy about the look, and there is sort of ego compatition about it regarding showing that own the most looking/exotic cue etc..

Somehow finding the cue feel/player as the only parameter for realy good cue, such cue that you bond with as a tool and help's you to break your own "limits" in this game. Sometime you feel that you're standing in the place with no progress in your game no matter how much training you just feel it's not it..

It is maybe the cold here or maybe just something in our heads, but all of us feel improovment in playing, since got those cues from Robin

Any similar feeling after got your own dream cue?
