  • How do I Repair This...?

Just bought a second-hand Peradon Pro-Cue. Very happy with it but it does have a fracture in the wood about 6cm from the tip. See photo (hope I've inserted it correctly). I've not played with the cue yet so I don't know if the damage will effect the way the cue plays. It appears that the split may already have been glued but it has left a very small bump. I'd rather not shorten the cue so can anyone suggest a method of repair. Thanks...

I'd return it if it wasn't advertised with the damage. Looks like a bad split, like someone's whacked it against the table in a strop.

Thanks Mark, I think you are probably right about the cause. I did view the cue before buying and was aware of the split, but I got it at a good price, with several accessories.

I would add that the split has not been glued as it can be opened slightly by forcing a bend it the shaft at that point. I know that there are some very strong wood glues around, but the difficult bit will be to get the glue in to the crack.

You could try counter sinking 2 jewellery box screws and use something like superglue to feed into the cracks. Dab of superglue on each screw head, allow to set, sand back and refinish. Ive seen this done on a very simillar crack (casued by someone whacking the cue into a wall) with excellent results.

A tip I have read several times here on TSF is if you are using superglue, then put the tube in the fridge for sometime to get it cold, as this makes the glue runnier than usual and could flow into the crack better.
          Up the TSF! :snooker:
