  • Snooker cue as pool cue?

    Hi!

I have been playing snooker and pool for a couple of months now (snooker is much more fun I think, but sometimes it's nice to play pool). A few weeks ago I bought a snooker cue. I don't know if this is a dumb question, but is it possible to play pool with it? Maybe not for the break-offs, but in "normal" play?
    Thanks.

When i used to play snooker and pool I did not use my snooker cue for pool - I use a cue with an 11mm tip, which is just too big for pool.

I think if your snooker cue has a 10mm tip or smaller then there is no reason why you cannot use the same cue. Its whatever you are comfortable with.

On what sort of table do you play pool?

My "dedicated" pool cue has a 13mm tip which is actually good for 8 or 9 ft tables
          with according balls.

I'd recommend a smaller tip size for smaller balls on a 6 ft table. But it's really
up to you. Just try it out. If it feels good, it's alright. But keep an eye on your
tip. If it's too soft for heavy pool balls it might get damaged.

          cheers

Good point mooneyy - I had assumed he was referring to the 6ft tables '8 ball' tables, where the cue ball is even smaller than the object balls, as opposed to the larger '9 ball' tables where the balls are larger than snooker balls.

i play more pool (uk8ball) than snooker and play with a wooldridge snooker cue with a 9.7mm tip. most pool players will tell you that a smaller (around 8mm) tip is better for pool, allowing more "action" on the white on the smaller balls... but i actually moved up to the snooker size tips as i found it improved my potting more than it effected my positional play (i can still scew back the length of the table).

so in short; yes, a snooker cue is fine for pool.

I'd always assume UK spec tables but I thought a Finn might be talking about a yank table.

I have used my old snooker cue to play 9 ball it's not the best idea really.
Fine for UK tables unless you like a smaller tip or less weight.
Screw tip pub bats don't get me started!!!!!

yeah good point, hadnt thought he might mean yank pool. if thats the case, I've played 9ball with a snooker cue... went out and bought a 9ball cue afterwards.

Thanks everyone! I play on a 7 ft table with 57 mm balls (I think), and the clubs poolcue tips are really big compared to my snooker cue's tip ( about 13-15mm, I think) So maybe it would be a good investment to buy a separate pool cue, or then I just continue playing with the club's cue.

I'm not really sure about the measures of the tables, but I think it's 8-9 ft not seven feet as I wrote in my last post.

OK, I think I'll buy one if I continue playing pool. Thanks!
