Possiblity that snooker crazy is an option from that general position, well nearer than Stockton on tees anyway. https://www.snookercrazy.com/product...stic-147-cues/

Marc Lockley runs the business and I'm fairly sure can allow some try before buy at a very locally positioned billiard hall.

Marc knows snooker well and isn't just out to make a buck, his Thai cues are well sourced and well made/finished. Give him a call, mention this site and say you're interested in maybe trying his cues with a possiblity of buying one if they play as well as they look. He's a top bloke. πŸ‘

Personally if I was spending that money, I'd make an over night stay, nice beach not far for a walk , find an air BnB, grab a breakfast think it over and then make a decision. Make it a good experience all round, one you'll remember and hopefully never regret.

If at all possible, that's a good choice.

Thats a cracking choice! One ill sleep on for sure!

Heres a question for you, you seem a knowledgeable person and potentially very experienced.

In an ideal world you would find a cue to match your needs, also trying before you buy, but let’s say thats not doable? Surely would you learn to play with a cues spec over time? Purely a question and not a debate. I only ask as I've read some of your responses to other posts, and you seem like a fountian of knowledge.

Lols, thanks I guess. All my knowledge that I'm happy to share is from experience, I did some of what I suggest, but had to base my try before you buy on using friends cues first, lucky for me they were John Parris x 2 a Ton Praram, A Taylor Made and a Maximus.

What I noticed in the Maximus was a weight dispersement I wasn't used to but I loved, weight was more forward in the cue it's was stiff but responsive too. I felt less concern over "throw" on shots due to the stronger shaft and this was a major shift in my understanding of what I needed/ wanted from a cue. From there I realised that this was a general characteristic of some major Thai brand cue makers.

From this point, although I liked the Maximus it was good for break building but I felt I lost some feel on long pots, because it was quite a thick taper and 9.7mm shaft. I tried a phoenix master with 9.6 mm tip at 18.5 and liked that better but still felt it wasn't quite right. I then saw a bargain almost new Tom classic on eBay with spec 9.5mm , 57" 18.3 weight and took a chance... It was perfect... And still is.

The forward weight is a big learning curve in modern cues, all the above were around the 17 inch balance point. Old cues were more butt weighted and had less weight distribution down the shaft.

So my story is like, the porridge with Goldie locks and the three bears, too much , too little , just right!!! Take some time to understand what your game needs from a cue and try a few. eBay resales are pretty good so you can offset costs by trying a few if you don't have access to a place like green Baize in Stockton.

To answer the question, I think yes you would learn to play to a level with any cue spec if you were left on a desert island with it but you also may feel over time you'd be better off with something lighter / heavier etc etc.
Best of luck on that yourney!

Yeah thats pretty much what I’ve done now, I’ve tried a couple locally today friends etc and made a decision I've gone with this one. I was going round in circles and it was stressing me oit a bit and feeling what i felt today I felt i needed to just go for it

Very nice πŸ‘ I haven't tried a titanium ferrule, but hear it takes a lot of deflection out of the equation so hopefully one less thing to worry about!! Enjoy it, hope it plays well for you.
