Take it from me that the material a ferrule is made from makes no difference at all to a cues' natural throw, it's there to protect the end of the shaft and that's all. My cue was made originally with a brass ferrule, I changed it to a buffalo horn ferrule and it now has a stainless steel ferrule and it has played exactly the same with all three.
Changing the ferrule on a cue can be a major job, if the tenon is smaller than the inside diameter of the new ferrule then the cue will have to be be cut down to cut a new tenon and then the cue will be a ferrules length shorter and will have to be re-tapered and/or will have to be made longer if the shorter length doesn't suit.

Buy a straight well balanced cue that's long enough to suit your height and get used to it, and from there only experiment with different tips as they can make a major difference in feel and deflection depending on how hard or soft they are.
Speak up, you've got to speak up against the madness, you've got speak your mind if you dare
but don't try to get yourself elected, for if you do you'll have to cut your hair

Interesting, I've never been tempted to change to or try titanium, because I thought there would be adjustments that I don't want to make. Sounds like just an expensive marketing ploy then.

So cue came today super happy with the service at green baize, impressed with the delivery!!

my only question is would you guys be happy with a knot in the grain? Ill be honest i’ve never seen it before. Is this a cause of concern?

Nope, wouldn't bother me at all. Have u played with it yet? I think GB allow u to send cues back if not happy.

No had chance to play with it yet, tried it it on the ironing board, few feathers, it felt good tbf. Just threw me off having the knot on the arrow line but I can get over that tbf

Obvs, how it plays will be the main thing but that characteristic in the shaft is quite nice to my eye. It's where the grain meets which means your get the flow/chevrons pointing either way from it. When this is longer it's referred to as a boat or canoe and is a characteristic sought by some players.
