  • Help, info on cue

    Hello

I was gifted this cue 30 years ago by my uncle and have often thought about the age of it, I used it when first gifted it and someone said to me it is an old cue given the weight stamp, I then stopped using it after this comment was made & so it has been sat in a case now for nearly 30 years.

I was wondering whether anyone could shed any light on it further.

The weight stamp is just above the butt (its a one piece cue) the oz sign is above the weight marking which is 17 1/2

I have registered but for some reason I cannot upload images of the cue, if someone can give instructions on how to upload images I will do so

The tip is 10mm & its 58 inches in length

    many thanks in advance

    Shane

    Picture always help

vBulletin attachment function is notoriously difficult and hard to manage; easier to use other methods such as illustrated below:

How to add images to your TSF posts
You can use a free image-sharing site such as ImgBB, without registering (you can register for free), to upload your images, you may have to do the “not a robot” checks quickly. There are other image sharing sites as well.
    ImgBB.com
    Click on "Start Uploading".
Browse to the file and select it, click Open.
Auto delete image - leave as "Don't autodelete".
    Click "Upload".

Change "Embed Codes" to "BBCode full linked".

Hover mouse over the code in the box, a "COPY" will appear, click this.
Go to your TSF post and paste.
You can repeat for multiple images in a single post.

    Up the TSF! :snooker:

        yep, seen.
There are many old cues that look like your cue and with the badge so worn it makes things very difficult to identify.
Question, if you move the badge in strong light do you see anything?

have taken it outside and nothing can be seen, no engraving,

the only thing there may be is a small line 10 mm long in the centre of the badge, this could be a scratch though I’m afraid

I would play with it if you like it, cues are made to be played with. It won't be worth half decent modern cue money anyway but may play better if you're lucky.
Is there anyone near you that could give it a bit of a refurb, new ferrule, regrain, reoil etc, looks like it would clean up nicely.
It's a decent tip size, weight etc for the modern game and is a nice hand spliced cue.
This is how you play darts ,MVG two nines in the same match!

                Thanks guys

to be honest is a little light for my liking and I prefer a smaller tip, was just wondering if someone may be able to say what make/brand it is as I’ve always wondered

Hi. I have my Fathers old cue which must be around 65/70 years old. It is 58" long with oz 16 1/2 stamped roughly in the same place as yours. It has no badge or makers name on it. I've never known it to have a ferule either. The story goes that the cue was used by Joe Davis at an exhibition match for one frame and then raffled off. The guy who won it didn't play and later sold it to my Father! I only used it a few times before buying a two piece cue. I stopped playing for many years and the cue remained in a cupboard at home. Last year I resumed playing again at a local club and not having my two piece anymore I got the old cue out, had a new tip fitted - still no ferule - and now use it once a week when my son joins me for a few games! Im now 76 yo, wear specs and cant fully bend over the table anymore so it's quite adequate for my needs! I also have my own set of Super Crystalates which are around 45 years old and in great condition!

                    Hello Neil

love your story, I have a young son who I hope to go and play snooker with in the future

I sent the pictures off to cue collectors for advice and they have responded with the opinion mine was made some time in the 1920’s so makes me not want to use the cue even more now

it might be worth getting hold of them about yours as they might be able to shed some light on it further

                    regards

                    shane

                      Hi Shane
Should have added that my cue has the flattened area on the stock end, but shows no signs of having ever had a manufacturers name or plate on there!

I'd be interested in buying it if it's still reasonably straight. I make cues and I like refurbishing old ones to sell on, see the My Workshop thread in the 'cues' section for examples of my work. Pm me once you get ten posts.
