  • First cue recommendations?

Really got into snooker this past few months, but tired of playing with ****ty cues at the local club, so figured its time to get a good piece as I play at least twice a week.

I read a lot and got to the conclusion that I want a 3/4 joint, 57-58 inch length with around a 9.5mm tip, and prefer it to br on the heavier side (not a dealbreaker).

Any reccomendations on which cue should I get?

I'm in a very similar situation and just ordered this, no idea if it's any good yet as it's on the way still - but overall seemed to tick most boxes, I added an Elkmaster tip (only because I've heard they're the main standard) and it puts 10% discount on so around £150 all-in. Worth a try I figured!

Will do! It's coming from China so looks like early next week (adds one day for the tip to be put on here).

Some good general advice here on a trusted site about cues. They too sell the Mark Richard cues as starter cues and sets. I'd say you got a good deal if your set includes case and extensions. https://greenbaize.com/cue-advice

Thanks for the info! The Mark Richard cues look to be the same as many similar "English name" branded cues from somewhere in China but with all the specs ticked including ash/ebony and looking nice it seemed a good deal with all the bits and pieces. I'll have no idea if it's that good as I've only used the snooker club cues but I figured it was above the really cheap stuff but not breaking-the-bank expensive.

yes they’re similar to Woods cues etc. I’m sure you’ll be happy as it’s nice to have your own stick!! Always get decent 2nd hand selling prices on eBay if you decide to sell and upgrade in the future but for now you got a decent starter.

A lot of these cues all come from the same factory, they just stick different badges on them. There will be no greater risk buying one of these than a more expensive cue off the Internet, you will either like how it plays or not. The only thing I would say would be the finish, these type of cues can come heavily lacquered but it's easy enough to cut back if it's too sticky. Not all do but in general they do. For the money you can't argue with a set up like that, looks a great deal.

Cue arrived this morning, handily about half an hour before I was going to play! Very pleased with it, feels solid, smooth and stable, everything built very well, join is imperceptible to touch, arrows on the ash shaft line up well with the butt flat section, tip seems well shaped (to my novice eye!) - only thing I would say is that there is very slight roughness compared to a friend's matte lacquered cue and the 57" seems just a tad short to me and I'm only 5'7". Very happy with it.

Links to images, I can't see to get the image button to get them to embed. 🤷‍♂️

very nice and I hope it works well for you

Images - do not use the Image/function in vBulletin as it is difficult to manage; you have perfectly well with image sharing site, such as ImgBB,
One word of advice for future use, when you get to the "Embed Codes" screen change this to BBCode full thread option i the menu; this will display the image in the post instead of a link
                          Up the TSF! :snooker:

I got the Mark Richard starter pack in GreenBaize a month ago.
Wonderfull cue. After Chinese cheap cues, this cue with a G2 medium tip is perfect for me.

Nice cue! I have a Woods snooker cue that I use for American eight-ball from time to time. It's held up really well in the four years I've had it.
