I believe there is a minimal and maximum variation which can cause throw. As long as the cue is within a certain perimeter (which the majority of cues are) then threw isn't really a factor for the majority of players.

It can throw left and right. But it will also throw up and down making the cue ball jump slightly.

Which is hilarious but not productive!

Sounds like striking off centre and striking down to me, while striking down is quite normal seeing as the butt of the cue is above the cushion 99% of the time, striking slightly off centre along with striking down will exaggerate this. Nothing to do with shaft, ferrule or taper, these pool dudes simple don't cue straight enough because they can get away with it on a US pool table with 4.5 to 5 inch wide pockets.
That's my opinion and to quote Mrs. Slocombe ' I'm unanimous in that', but a cueing machine that always cues straight and takes out the human element may convince me.

Now why a non disclosure agreement ? 🤨

For some reason my reply to Vmax isn't going through so...

                1. Don't let the average pool player fool you. For example, Chris Melling is an all round pro cue sports player who specialises in Pool with a cue action as good as 99.9% of professional snooker players. There are many others, Heyball is providing proof of this.

                2. Your a cue maker, yes? So you can do your own testing or not. That's your choice. But at least base your opinion on fact.

                3. Why the non disclosure agreement?
Can you keep a secret? SO CAN I

I play (very average) 9-ball pool and the notion of a 'pro taper' (where the shaft stays the same diameter through about 2/3 of its length) is standard in American pool cues. I've no idea about throw (although prepared to believe it), but i find playing English pool with a 'normal' UK style taper is quite weird in contrast. As you push the cue through your bridge hand i have this feeling that it's rising as the shaft gets thicker. i bought an old Aeon Dave Dolman recently to see what it was like and the tape was so pronounced it was like playing with a cone. Couldn't get on with it at all
