Hi All,
I've been lurking around for a few weeks now as I decided it was time I picked up a cue again and visited my local hall - I haven't been since my stag night twenty odd years ago, so we can blame the wife.
A bit of back story.
I was originally looking at a John Parris as, like most kids growing in the 80s/90s, a JP Ultimate cue was the holy grail - however after reading a lot of the posts on the forum, I became aware of the extremely long wait times and the inflated prices due to demand, including the second hand market. So I decided I would try to contact the cue makers often recommended on the forum (Wooldridge, Stamford, Owen, Osborne, White), but I quickly realised nobody was taking new orders, and there are slim pickings on the second hand market.
I then decided I would go back to a Parris Cue, I really liked the design on the Limited Edition 3 Cue, but I decided if I was going to order a new cue I may as well go for an Ultimate as it would likely hold its value better and both had a lengthy wait time anyway. However, before biting the bullet I noticed a Limited Edition 3 Cue pop up for sale at a fairly reasonable price, so I bit the bullet. There wasn't much information about the cue other than it was 20-25 years old.
Anyhow that's how I got here, and now to the point at hand.
The cue arrived and it is generally in good condition for the age (looks to be a red glue), but has a few little issues and I think it could do with being re-finished. I have added some photos but this is what I would like/ think needs to be sorted out if possible:
1. New Tip
2. Clean or replace the ferrule
3. Fix the two small dents on the back of butt
4. Remove a sharpie type mark on the Burr Wood
5. Remove the glue on the top of the shaft
6. Refinish or oil the cue (the top of the shaft feels a bit rough like it has been sanded a bit when shaping the tip)
7. Service the joint
8. Repair/recolour the small bit of missing green veneer
I am fairly competent and patient and could try the above myself, but I would prefer to pay an expert to do it. I was hoping to take it down to Robert Osborne as I am 5 minutes from his workshop - but he is closed at the moment. The next closest to me is John Parris themselves, but I recall reading a post on here that the finish wasn't as good as others (no idea if that is true or not).
So please can anybody help offer advice on the following:
1. Who would you recommend I use to refinish/service the cue? (I am in London, SW17)
2. Would you recommend refinishing the cue completely and if not what would you recommend?
3. What costs are likely to be involved?
Lastly (sorry for the long first post>, I understand the Limited cues use Paragon grade shafts, bearing in mind that the quality of shafts seem to be diminishing year on year due to demand, would there be much difference in a 25 year old JP Paragon Shaft compared to a 2027 Ultimate shaft? Also, how many is Limited - I see no mention of the amount of JP Limited cues will be made for each edition.

Thanks for reading and any help will be greatly appreciated.
