Hi! The Maple Wood on the Shaft of my Connoisseur Cue is darker than the maple wood on the butt (which is also laquered)! Is this because of the age? How can I clean the shaft? :snooker:

laquered only on the butt end! shaft is darker then the laquered butt end! but the shaft looks darker than the normal maple wood! like a little green and grey shade! A snooker friend said it is the original condition of the cue! But i don't think so!

You need to speak to a real expert about that, someone with a lot of knowledge about older cues: totlxtc (member) would be a good bet, he knows what he's talking about and is a good guy.Il n'y a pas de problemes; il n'y a que des solutions qu'on n'a pas encore trouvées.

its common on powerglides to have a varnish line about 3 inches above the splices - ignore it unless its really bothering you.

The laquer will protect the butt wood from ageing, but the shaft will age normally; that's the difference.Last edited by KeithinFrance; 22 February 2009, 10:09 AM.Il n'y a pas de problemes; il n'y a que des solutions qu'on n'a pas encore trouvées.

The shaft will naturally get darker do to ageing this is perfectly normal. the reason that the maple in the butt area is different is because the varnish prevents it from naturaly aging.
The shaft is coming into contact with natural oils fro the skin as well as chalk dust/dust from the table cloth which may be causing the green/grey shade you mentioned.
If it is bothering you you could wipe the shaft down with some 1500 grade wet & dry then wipe with white spirit when dry apply some linseed oil and leave for 24 hours then wipe oil off. Repeat the linseed process untill the cue will not soak up any more oil.Just because its old, doesn't mean its worth a fortune!!
