  • how long to get used to a cue???

I was curious to guage other members views on how long does it take to get used to a cue?

Am one of those who changes his cues ore often than a welsh cuemakers underwear!

Whether this is right or wrong is open to debate

Years ago I remember reardon taking years to adjust after tony wilshaw couldn't repair his cue it took years for him to adjust

Likewise alex higgins wen his burwat was broken

Does it take weeks, months, years or are you lucky enough to be able to play pretty well with any cue?
Its not how well you play its how good you look playing that counts!

Can play with any after a month or so to be honest. So longs they're reasonably similar and don't have stupidly small ferrules.

It is exactly the same for me:
I can reach the equal niveau with any cue 56" to 57":
            Red - Nothing - Red - Nothing - ....
I am confused... Oh wait... Maybe I'm not...

It took a good few hours on the table for me to get used to my new one, maybe around 20. It was similar length and weight but the balance/weight distribution was totally different, also the shaft was marginally thicker, and the taper different, not much but at first it was like i was playing with a table leg . Fantastic now tho.

                Awhile. Really.

... it requires lots of time and contact experience...
Take it for long walks... use it to vault over fences... fight off rapscallions or car-jacking chavs with it as with a bo... spear a few fish like with a javelin... or pot pot pot tons of snooker balls...

Everyones different. I feel comfortable with a new cue almost straight away but it can take different people different amounts of time.
Always play snooker with a smile on your face...You never know when you'll pot your last ball.

I recently turned up for a match having forgotten my cue, picked one out of the rack and still won 4-0! I really believe playing with any cue is a state of mind, finding the right one for you though, now that takes time.

i think if you practice alone with any decent cue of your prfered specs, you will find you can pot anything and position prety well so in my opinion most cues can be just as good as each other, if you stick to the same cue then your matchplay will become more like your practice !
So next time you find a great cue just be patiant with it as you would be better off sticking with one cue.
Now i just need to take my own advice and stop buying a new cue every month myself. ha ha.

It took me around a month to get used to my new cue. Even thought it takes some time...I still love getting a new one if even for the excitement factor of having a new one.

Yep, pretty much the same here. For me its more about the responsiveness of the shaft, if its got a nice spring to it and doesn't throw off much then I'd be knocking in breaks within a week or two, again so long as the spec is near enough to what I play with. You kind of know within a week whether the cue will suit you but then it also depends on the standard of player you are too. If you can play all the shots and know how to execute them then a week is long enough. Getting adjusted to safety shots and long pots will take a bit longer though, that comes more in time.
