  • Cue Booth at the Crucible?

This may be a dumb question but I will ask anyways this one goes to Trevor and Mike or anyone else that knows , will you have a booth at the Crucible were you will be selling your cues? this is the first time for me to be at the crucible so I am not sure what to expect, here (US)when they have an event that big they usually have vendors at the site that sells shirts or whatever so I was just wondering…

    Thanks.

There will be vendors at the venue selling merchandise and cues, but these cues are mass produced and, to be honest, aren't worth the price at all.

Referring to your question, are you asking whether trevor or mike sell thier cues at the tournament venue?

not a dumb question. the people in charge however maybe dumb...

i spoke with someone a few years ago at wsa but they basically weren't interested.

just wanted to have their sh*tty little imported cues for sale there and nothing else.

proved that a few hundred pound profit from crap cue sales meant more to them than having genuine quality associated with the world championships, the most prestigious date on the snooker calendar, and a showcase to the world.

        short sighted idiots.

i don't know if this situation has changed. but i wouldn't bother trying to talk to someone there again. unless they've had a clear out of staff and changed their attitudes...

but jp normally has a free hour's worth of advertising courtesy of bbc, , maybe he's allowed to have a stall there?

I know Cheddar Classics used to have a stall at the Irish masters in Goffs as I bought my first JP cue from Mark Johnstone Allen and his father. I brought the cue down with me the following year and mark re-tipped it for me free of charge. Nice chap.

All they have at the crucible is painted pieces of ****!!!

The organisers should be begging the likes of Mike Wooldridge and Trevor White to turn up with some proper cues..

Its a shame, its not even surprising anymore to hear these types of things about world snooker

Well Cheddar Classics went bust so it might not be as profitable for someone to hire a stall and expect much in the way of sales. Also the vast majority of people that go to watch snooker aren't or don't play snooker to a decent standard. Most wouldn't know a good cue if they saw one so they certainly wouldn't be roped into parting with £200+ on a cue that they probably can't try out. Also how many people carry that kind of money around with them or would be prepared to part with that much on an instinctive purchase such as a cue. If you want a top quality cue you need to take your time to consider what you want, buying from a stall with probably a limited selection is not ideal.

But there will always be some serious snooker players who know what they
want. So you could probably sell some cues at the venue.
Additionally, I think quite a lot of people will be wanting to get into snooker
after they've been to the WC. So it'd certainly be a good place to be in terms
                  of advertising.

Even if they wouldn't/couldn't buy a cue on site, they'd remember the cuemaker
who was there and his beautiful looking cues.

It is very sad mind that they would rather sell cheap cues from china and not have decent cue makers there also. I could agree that for the lesser tournments people will turn up and not know a lot about snooker because the tickets are cheaper. The worlds are a lot more expensive and you would get people from all over the world going to watch more so the later rounds who have a genuine interest in snooker and might be looking to purchase or a least get some contact with a good cue maker and see the cues for real. Be nice to see a good cue maker and a table for genuine people who were intrested in buying one its just a shame that they are turning snooker from a sport into a business.

I am tired now think i will go to bed!

I know John Parris will be at the competition but not selling his cues, but I am sure if you bump into him he will be more than happy to sell you one

And Mike I totally agree that it is now time that the WSA have a total reshuffle, out with the old and in with the new, their organisation skills are well there are none! for instance I am trying to get hold of the press office today and all I get form their London and Bristol office is that they are at the Crucible and we don't have numbers for them and all of their mobile phpnes are turned off oh and they havn't replied to my emails sent 2 days ago.

Rodney Walker needs kicking out and someone who doesn't look like he is gonna fall asleep watching the snooker to replace him.
