Sorry to be picky. 1969/71/77 should say John Spencer. Steve Davis/Thorburn a bit muddled also. Cant help otherwise I'm afraid although Spencer's win in '77 was the first using a 2-piece cue - a cheap Canadian model.

Hendy, maple powerglide, Spencers two piece was maple.

Here's a thing I've never thought about, maple has won a lot more titles than I thought!

if anyone is near peradon in liverpool (clairs) nip in and ask can you have a look at joe davis's cue the last time i was there i was buying a fullsize snooker table. the guy took me upstairs to show me this antique table they had set up that was for sale and as i was walking down to the room i noticed a cue in a large glass case with a set of balls. when i asked the chap about the cue he told me it was joe davis's cue his daughter had given to to them and they where in the process of having a museum built on the other side of the road. by the looks of it had been there for years just gathering dust.

Roger Lee used to exhibit that cue (and glass case and set of balls etc) in th Heritage Room at the Crucible each year, until they decided to use the room for corporate hospitality instead.
