  • JP Mannock replica

With the JP Mannock being the most admired cue ever designed I decided to have Tony Glover make me a replica.
It is stunning, please have a look at the facebook group "Antique billiard and snooker cues" for loads of pics.

it seems that the ebony splices are hand spliced..They should be machine spliced...

Yes they are handspliced but the only way to get machine splices that look right would be to use an old machine spliced cue as the donor shaft.

                  Could you elaborate on that?

Plus I wish the badges would say who they are by to be honest. J.P Mannock Replica By Tony Glover or Something.

                  Still a nice cue though

The specs are 9mm ferrule, 31mm butt, 58 inches long, 18oz.
Naturally dark ash, hand spliced ebony, Tulip and some Burr that Tony had from Australia.
He went for the darker burr to set off the tulip. The way he has cut the tulip gioves the cue a brilliant look. Finished with a badge that has been made from other of tulip.
Have to say I gave Tony Glover some pics of my favourite Mannock and exact dimensions for the taper and he has got it absolutely spot on.

The machine splices nowadays don't go down to a v at the base of the splice. I think it would be easier to pick an old cue as the shaft and then add on the tulipwood, thuya burr/snakewood. I know thats what Dom has got Trevor to do in the past.

I collect and tarde in old cues and out of 3-400 I have never found an old cue that plays the modern game that well. Its very hard to find an 18 oz antique cue and even harder to find one with a stiff shaft, stiff enough to take down to 9mm
I was use to a certain spec of taper so had a replica cue made. This gives me an old looking cue in the style I like and a cue that plays every bit as well as any modern hand made cue.

Anyone who is serious about collecting cues will be able to tell a replica by certain small things. Also its known amongst the main collectors which replicas have been made and who has them.

I would have done this but I wanted Tony Glover to hand make me a cue, it didnt have to be an exact replica.

Another point, I would estimate this cue would sell for more than an original Mannock. It cost more than an original. I could have brought a Mannock and a very nice one but it wouldnt have been to my personal specs.
