Thats what I would do. But if you sent the one I linked to ADR he would probably call it rubbish :P

If I'd got that when I was 10 I'd be pretty happy to be honest! My first cue was a 10 pound argos thing with a red painted bottom half

If I was 10 I'd be overjoyed with that cue. I asked for a cue for christmas once. All I wanted was one of the ones from jjb as I didn't know any better and all I wanted was a cue so i could play with my own cue. But I never got one.

I think to a 10 year old that cue would be amazing, and would actually make him want to play.

When you're a youngster you also look at a Cue with one of your favourite player's signature on it. I got a (Peradon) Matchroom Tony Meo Cue when I was 13 from Thurston. I mean even Stephen Hendry got a Powerglide Rex Williams Cue when he was 13.

I got the one from ebay for £50. I do think my son is going to love it and as he gets older he'll probably want to choose his own anyway.

Do you think it will need re-tipping though? I've been reading up on the cheap cues throughout the forum and some threads were saying the cheap ones have cheap tips. Is re-tipping something to DIY? Or will the tip be ok for a 10yr old beginner? I have a tendency to over complicate things

i expect it will need retipping - depends on the cue - there is a guide on how to do it on the forum. http://www.thesnookerforum.com/board...ead.php?t=9324

Wow, thanks for the offer! I've only just seen this. Turns out the tip is perfect for him.

I just came back to say thank you to everyone for the help and advice. My son finally had his birthday and absolutely loves his first cue!! His dad took him playing and they both sid it was the best cue they'd used. My son's game has already improved from having such a great cue which makes him even more eager to play and learn.
The snooker hall where they play has some cues for sale up to £65 and apparently the one my son has is loads better!

So thank you everyone who helped on this thread and especially RGCirencester
