  • Need help!!!

Hi!! I'm new to the forum, so first of all, a big HI to everyone!!

Ok, so I live in Sri Lanka, and have been playing for the better part of 2 years. My cousins got me a budget cue, which I am playing with at the moment. It's a pretty decent cue in most respects- its a cuecraft bulldog, 10mm tip, 2 piece (center jointed) cue. It plays ok, and the shaft is made with good grained ash. But the problem is that it's a bit forward balanced (i think the ash in the butt section is a lesser grade, and the splice is longer than average), and i cant get the feel of the shot. This dearly affects mainly my speed control, because when you cant feel the shot properly, you have to go by instinct, and it is difficult to guess and get it right!!

So i'm looking for a better cue. My friend will be able to bring one from UK, but the only problem is the budget.

I unfortunately cant afford anything in excess of GBP.60. I know this is WAYY too low to buy a good cue. Was wondering if anyone has any ideas. If i'm buying, i hope to get something of a good standard. I prefer a backward balanced, 9.5mm tip cue, possibly 3/4 jointed (but not fussy). I am totally willing to compromise on looks for playability. I was looking at a 2nd hand mastercue on ebay

60GBP is quite a bit for me (and chances are it will go above that!!), so i cant afford to experiment. But it is VERY tempting! It looks like a M5 which can be seen on the site,so any opinions??

Finally, seeing that i am unlikely to be able to get this anyways, i would appreciate advice on what my options are. Thanks!!

Sorry to say, but 60 pounds isn't going to get you anything. I know where you are coming from because have family in India and 60 pounds would be a lot to them too.

I'm not sure what you can actually do, but I think you would be better off keeping the money than spending it.

Ok, just to add to my original post - how important is it that the cue be hand spliced?? I haven't played with a proper hand spliced cue, so would appreciate views from people who have played with both machine spliced and hand spliced cues (especially the difference in the feel, balance...etc)

Well you can get a hand spliced powerglide cue for £52:
        http://www.amazon.co.uk/PowerGlide-S...4539769&sr=8-1
Otherwise you can get a Peradon Crown which is machine spliced for £48 or the Peradon Joe Davis for £66 fom Thurston. I just think the only way you can decide if a cue is right for you is to try before you buy. That is difficult because everyone seems to buy their cue online now. You could also get a basic machine spliced Mastercue in the £60-£70 range.

Hand splice gives it that 'feel' and usually more care is taken into the making of the cue.

Ok, so another question (i know, im probably getting pretty annoying!!) I know everyone thinks the BCE and Riley cues nowadays are not worth the money, so was wondering if the BCE Grand Master and Riley Burwat ranges are also mass produced in China (i remember reading a post calling BCE and Riley cues "chinese firewood" or some such!)?

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Im sorry to say but £60.00 won't but you much, if you could stretch your budget a bit more you might find something to suit you.

                Ok, so i have two options. These are two ebay links. I would like to know, how much you'll would bid on each cue;

                http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=320380208361

This is a mastercue M5 professional, with a millimeter by millimeter slight dent, apparently. The seller is selling because the cue is heavy, which is not what he is looking for.

This is being sold because the seller has bought a parris one piece. I noticed however that it seems a tad old.

Was wondering what is better, and what you'll would have bid if you'll were looking for a cue for a budget. Thanks!!
