  • Is Parris Cues for real?

    Hi all,

I'm from Australia and new to the forum.

I would like your comments if I may.

Firstly, I ordered a cue from Dunn cues of England.

When the cue arrived I went straight to my snooker table to see what it was like. I did not even get to hit a ball, I rolled the cue on the table and found it was nowhere near straight.

I promtly sent the cue back to where it came from and thet refunded my money.

Second thing, I have ordered a cue from Parris cues from London.

They told me my they would give me a quote on the cue first.
I received an email from Parris to say the order was confirmed and the cue would be delivered soon.

I did receive an email from Parris but the main body of the email was blank.

I sent a further email to them asking them to confirm my order and they replied, saying me order was confirmed and the confirmation was attached.

From there, when I opened the attachment it was in some strange format that could not be read.

I have no confidence at this stage in this company.

Can any of you guys comment on my dealings so far with Parris cues.

The reason I ask is, Parris cues have been spoken of many times here and most people seamed to think they were reasonable cues.

Have any of you had a bad experience with Parris?

    Many thanks,

    Robert Hancock

If you're referring to www.parris-cues.co.uk so in brief, yes they're for real. I have purchased 2 cues in the past from them & both cues are pretty good cues, I have no complaints.

First cue was a Regal & second cue (in my avatar) is an Ultimate. I have had top class service on both occasions. Give John a call, you will find his number on the website and I'm sure you'll reach the comfort level you're looking for once you've spoken to him!

      Many thanks cue1.

I will take your advise and phone John.

I did for a while think that I may be getting a cue from China or somewhere else.

I just want a good cue.

      Many thanks

      Robert

Go to www.handmadecues.com and read every section clicking on every tab. There you will learn just about everything you need to know.

Check if a cue is straight by holding it at the butt end and looking down the shaft.

Chances are that your first cue was actually straight and true!!

LOL... Mike I love your straightness in Cues and Explanations...
Hope you don't mind... lifted from site.. http://www.handmadecues.com/info/40-straightcue.htm

This is what my illustration meant to say in no words...

                    How not to check
Do not roll a cue on a table. Why? Because it is possible for a bent cue to appear straight, and a straight cue to appear bent (trust me - I've seen it).
If you roll a cue on a table it may 'wobble' and appear bent. Often, it is the flat on the butt that causes this. Other times it can just be the general shape of the taper.

Either way, the cue could be perfect for you but you tell yourself it is no good because it is 'bent'.

Forgive the wood a little and allow a cue it’s ‘personality’. Sure, it may have a slight kink, but it could ‘feel’ superb to play with. Judge the cue by what it plays like.

Give me a cue that looks straight enough and plays well, than a dead straight lifeless piece of s*** any day of the week. Get your priorities right...

I have found Parris cues to be a real pain in the arse. I wouldn't recommend them at all, their customer services are terrible.

I have been waiting for my cue from them since March last year, the first one went apparently missing in couriering to me. The I found out that what I wanted wasn't what they made me, so I was glad it went missing, but I'm still waiting for the replacement. John says he knew the specs of Steve Davis cue which was what I wanted and then, I got Steve to show me his cue, and shore enough it wasn't like John said it was and how he made me the first one. I then got another story form John saying that he hadn't really had a good luck at Steve's cue for 20 years. So he got it in photographed it and took the measurements for me, but he was well over the time limit on my cue, so I asked for Photos and three atempts to send photos, but nothing.

When you ring up if John's not there, none of his other staff can tell me anything about my cue.

If it wasn't that I really wanted that particular badge on my cue, I wouldn't bother.

My experience very very very bad.

after seeing a few parris cues i have gotta say i wasnt not impressed, however a friend of mine bought one from stu at greenbaize second hand and it is an excellent piece of work.

so thought if can got hold of one of the better made ones will be ok, i found a nice tradtional cue on ebay hardly used and few months old, lucky for me ive dropped on an excellent cue faultless in everyway. however i found the 9mm tip a bit small for me so decided at the time to send to parris cues to be altered and 3/4 jointed above the splices.

after it was sent i kinda regreted it, so i rang parris cues, to my shock john answered the phone and we discussed what i wanted and that it could be done.

3 week later it came back perfectly like i wanted, balance, arrows in the same place on the grain etc.

suppose i was just lucky, compared to rest of responses in relation to parris cues

Going to JP's shop or a stockist like Green Baize Limited would be the safest way to get a Parris cue, definitely.
                            Tear up that manure-fed astroturf!

I know that it isn't a Parris cue.

It is supposed to be a Ye olde Ash cue. John said the butt flayed out at the end dramatically to 32mm, and I had seen photos of it, and it didn't look that way to me.

So after months of trying to get a look at it close at tournaments in Dec last year Steve let me hold it and have a good luck at it, and it is nothing like your Ye olde Ash butt or the cue as it was as a one piece. When it was jointed in 1988 the Butt had to be lengthened and John must have re shaped it because it is very similar to the Paris Ambassador. It is this spec that I have asked for.
