He will establish what wood the cue is made from and I will publish what he finds. If the cue IS good there might even be a repeat order for you.

Moderator- I am new to your EXCELLENT forum so I hope I haven't broken too many rules by posting this. If I have please don't ban me just yet.
We are all very eager for the result that you have promised us. I see that you are back and have started a new thread.

What makes you think so? Is it because he has not told us anything for over a week?

Sorry about the delay in feedback. I am waiting to get my hands on an accurate scale so I can get an exact weight for the cue. I have miked the butt and the tip so have accurate figures for those as well as point of balance. I thought I would post it all as one item rather than doing it piecemeal. The physics guy is now back at school so I can get his electronic scale probably on Monday and thereby provide an accurate weight.

          So expect something fairly soon.

On an unrelated topic how big are your balls and are they the same size? Whilst I had the micrometer out I happened to pass it over a set of snooker balls with interesting results. The cue ball si the biggest of the set but all the others are slightly dofferent sizes. Some time I will mike them all and weigh them and post the results. I might do the same for my pool balls. It should make interesting reading. (Lest I be accued of hypocrisy actually I shall probably get the physics man to set this as a class assignment and see what his students come up with).

I think all we care is how does it hit, how is the craftsmanship, and if it is real ebony...may be some pictures.

A good cue should have its weight exactly at 18.000oz--anything which deviates from that is a sign of contaminates present in the wood. A very precise scale is a must, and it has to be operated by a qualified specialist with at least one PhD degree.

I cant wait for the expert findings that has already taken almost two weeks to prepared--may be Phillip needs to publish it in Pdf or mail it to us in a CD as I am sure it consists of many pages full of data.

                    • Yes it is good. I am very pleased with it. The purpose of a cue is to push the balls around the table in a straight line and it does that very well. For a hundred quid I got a cue, mini butt, extension and a not too bad case. I will post the dimensions, weights etc. in a couple of days. The splices in the buttare attractively and accurately made. Whether they are done by hand or by machine I do not know and can't say that I actually care! I need to examine the shaft in more detail before I express an opinion there but it is certainly a straight piece of ash with a quite attractive grain.

                          • You know, joking aside, I just want to say that Phillip really has a point.

For a cue that is so inexpensive, with extensions and a leather case for sometimes even under 50 pounds, it is obviously a beginner's set and should not be compared to the top grade cues made in the UK.

For someone looking for his first set of cue, there is a good chance that he is going to be very happy with a cue like Kevin Sherland, especially if he gets a really good deal. I know I would not expect the cue to be hand spliced, with gaboon ebony, top grade ash and so on if I am paying that kind of money.

Anyway, that is my 2 cents for what it is worth. Now, I will be looking forward to reading Phillip's detailed multi-page report on this cue with measurements all to 3 decimal places.

with the greatest of respect this is a cue review from somebody who does not know the first thing about cues.

                              • beginner's cue? The beginner is going to have no idea why he/she can never hit the ball straight, because the "master cue maker" don't even know how to fit a ferrule straight, I would prefer a second hand chinese/thai made cue (LP, LKT, Master, OMin, SS Kalam, Unique), or even a dufferin rackie anyday than a painted cue with a crocked ferrule.. As mentioned earlier, there's no need to lie, if it's not handmade or spliced, then say so, and market it as a budget cue, (there's many pool and snooker 2 piece cue without splicing) rather than trying to pretend to be a quality handmade cue with painted splice... lol.....
