  • Hmm yeh Rosewood answer a shocker really. Nothing wrong with making a cue with a rosewood butt. Painting a butt never right.
The Chinese cuemakers should take a leaf out of these Thai companies books possibly.

    • If you cannot make a decent break with a nicely crafted cue, try one of those cheaper chinese cues. It works on me, my highest break with a John Parris cue, was 78, but with a 10pounds ash cue from china, i made a 95.

is it one of those painted one with a crocked ferrule?

from what I gather about the game, making a break was never the problem, a break mainly consists of many easy shots put together, any rackies can give you a high enough break, I've made 60-70+ breaks by picking up the first rackie I see, it's potting the first long hard shot in a good tight safety game under pressure in a competition that counts, try doing that with a crocked ferrule that aren't even fitted straight...

the question is: would you pay for the 10 pound rack cue the price of your JP cue since you play better with the 10 pound cue?

          • So, should I still expect a review from Phillip?

It sounds really simple that way. I should keep that in mind. Why is making a break above 22 a problem for me then?
I am confused... Oh wait... Maybe I'm not...

                • I just want to know what has happened to the biology PhD and the Physicist. I want to read a review with very precise measurements.

May be Phillip is looking for a camera from a photography professor? I will wait a few more days.

                  • Cue is with the Physics PhD even as we speak (or type). Once he has done the necessaries (butt diameter, tip diameter, centre of gravity- his words not mine- and overall length) he will pass it on to the biologist. The biologist has the digital microscope and will get some photos of the splices so you can make up your own minds.

I realise this has taken a very long time but I do actually have other things to do with my time and measuring a stick is fairly low on my list of priorities but I do want it to be accurate when it is done!

I see weare now upto almost 130 posts on tis particular subject. Maybe we should all get out more. What do you think?

ahh, this is getting serious. We have a PhD measuring the stick for us,which is a really decent job for, primary school kids' hands on thing. Philip why don't you just put some pics of the stick first? lots of people are expecting it and we have 2 movies to plan for.

                      • but then, how do you want to judge whether it's a good cue or not if you only know it's 58 inches? it might be 58 inches and 3/128 of an inch...

The underline sentence is really funny coming from a guy who sent a cue made in China to be tested by a physic Phd for its center of grivity and measurements, followed by pictures of the splices taken with a digital microscope by a biologist--when all we wanted was some regular everyday pictures that anyone can take even with a cell phone in a few minutes.

Phillip, no one asked you to do anything. You offered to buy a cue and write a review for us. Please dont try to make it sound like we are all a bunch of geeks with no life and you just could not be bothered with us because you have other important things to do.

                          • Very little that I do can be described as important but some is more urgent than others.

Just got a mail from the first guy- it is measured and has now been passed on to the guy with the microscope.
