The reason i am asking this question is to find out why majority of the mass produced cues these days are with spec's of 9.5mm tip and weight of 18 - 18.5oz,dont they produce cues with bigger ferrul's and lighter weights anymore ?? or am i the only snooker player who likes bigger tips and lighter cues.

It may be that modern ash is different to the older stuff. Perhaps it's stiffer, and that's why 9.5 is better than 10mm for modern cues? Stu Green of GBL is a former snooker pro and he seems to think 9.5 and 18-19 oz is ideal for getting into the white.Tear up that manure-fed astroturf!
