I'm assuming he's done them in ascending order ? If so it looks like he's made about 1300 of them ? And if you ordered one now you'd be no.13-- ?
If I bought one, I'd like it to be an earlyish one somewhere in the 300-600 . Hardly seen any of these for sale on ebay in all the years I've trawled through the listings

no, you're completely wrong.
He certainly must have started from 6314, descending, to 6159. Then numbering continued, ascending, from -13 to -11, because they are negative and prime numbers.
Via 5F to B, hexadecimal, descending, he now came back to ascending order, actually numbering from 999 onwards.
This will continue until 1470 is made. Then J.P. will retire.

is it possible to order one without a number?
how bout hunt and osborne?
No, it is not possible to order one without number. But before the numbered Ultimates there was a period with the JP postcode on the badge and a short period without any numbers but just the "Ultimate Cue" on it.
