  • Cue oil

    guys

i have over the years..used linseed oil to feed my cues...but find they develop a tinge

what sorta oil feeds the cue without giving it a golden glow

would finishing oil readily available at diy stores do the same....opinions please as needed to prepare to feed my new T White

I've noticed Coutts cues are now selling cue oil on ebay. Tempted to try a bottle, but will be disappointed if it's no better than linseed seeing as it's £6 a bottle of 30ml.
The only one I've tried except for Linseed is Mastercue oil, but I couldn't really tell the difference, it was like Linseed except the smell was less powerful

tung oil is said to have the same qualities of linseed except it has a less distinctive colour change.

not neccesarily the best finish fr your cue though. Hard to find information on different oils as most people ncluding cuemakers themselves go with linseed or linseed blends. Mike wooldridge sells his cue oil on his website, Bitter from this forum (welshpooltrading) also sells his through his ebay account. Craftsman sells a cue wax which although not bad I am not that fond of against traditional oil finish.

Bear in mind Tung is made from the Tung nut, so if you have a nut allergy its best to steer clear.

You say "new Trevor White", so surely the cue will not need messing with for a long time anyways? Trevors finish is the best around and I wouldn't like to ruin that.

Dave Coutts's cue oil is great, he's re-finished I don't know how many cues for me recently, and with his oil finish the cue is perfect. If you're looking for a good oil look no further, and if you want to know about the "golden glow", then you can just ask him! Personally, I like a cue which has a nice golden colour, and most of them do change colour with time, but each to their own, eh?

I could be wrong but I think it is basically like linseed oil.
