Actually just read the thread showing the two "budget" cues for sale, one of them using this wood - does look unusual

            • They look very interesting, (and bright !) - are these "weird" woods readily available ? or do you spend ages hunting them down

              • I look around everywhere trying to find different pieces of this and that. Im sure most cuemakers have played with so many woods and in a way I still think the basic set of woods (Ebony, Cocobolo, Olivewood, Snakewood etc) are the way to go. But its as much as an interest as making cues. If I find something nice, I test it before I would splice it. If its useless for a cue then i make it into something else. If it works well then ill make a design for it and make it up. But I must admit I have had to stop getting timber as it got a little out of control.

My favorite piece is a block of Brazilian Rosewood that is just beautiful. Shame it is illegal to trade

What other things do you make then ??

Never even considered some types of wood are illegal ! - are you allowed to show us a pic ?

                  • Brazilian Rosewood

Not rare but pretty all the same.
                    Pink Myrtle Burl

But remember that alot of the woods used are classed as rare or endangered due to excessive cultivating, deforestation etc...

                    • Nice! - "Shame it is illegal to trade" - you can presumably still use it for your own personal cues ? (then sell them later pretending not to know what sort of wood it is)

Heard that those people treat their burl wood as 'problem' woods - means cannot go for housebuilding purpose, and some sawmills will sell them out very cheap. Even cheaper than maple wood of the same weight
Nice burl wood there (but not a very good shaft)...and you have PM from me

Yep, the shaft is not a beauty. Only with premium grade quality
                            It's in the Shaft
