I look around everywhere trying to find different pieces of this and that. Im sure most cuemakers have played with so many woods and in a way I still think the basic set of woods (Ebony, Cocobolo, Olivewood, Snakewood etc) are the way to go. But its as much as an interest as making cues. If I find something nice, I test it before I would splice it. If its useless for a cue then i make it into something else. If it works well then ill make a design for it and make it up. But I must admit I have had to stop getting timber as it got a little out of control.
My favorite piece is a block of Brazilian Rosewood that is just beautiful. Shame it is illegal to trade

But remember that alot of the woods used are classed as rare or endangered due to excessive cultivating, deforestation etc...Comment

Input from Thailand. Laws on selling exotic/rare/endangered woods are also very strict. But I always see those woods around in all places here. Perhaps officials are more flexible. Laos Country offers lots of nice Burl Wood blanks, like this picture attached, but I don't know where & how to get them. Heard that those people treat their burl wood as 'problem' woods - means cannot go for housebuilding purpose, and some sawmills will sell them out very cheap. Even cheaper than maple wood of the same weight
