  • Does Anyone Collect Mini Butts?

Well it struck me earlier... How many of you out there collect cues in any small (or large) way?

Well this is a prohibitively expensive hobby... So I was thinking... As I think (most of us at least ) can agree you don't need 20 different cues...

    Does anyone collect mini butts?
I mean you can have them made by all different makers, with badges, they're much less expensive than buying a whole cue. You can have splices put on them. They also take up much less space!!! Different woods...

BTW pics arn't all mine Just the Tulip one...

i would if cuemakers are willing to put their name badge or plates up (with a flat plate, not round butt), i am quite willing to start such a collection. would save loads, not just money, but space and even cue cases.

    heres my anology:
if you have an aspiration to travel around the globe, and pick up things from different places as evidence of travelling there (like ice from the mountains of the alps, sand from the beaches of sri lanka, teapot from china), then i have an aspiration to have a collection of mini butts with name badges for cuemakers, as evidence of "making contact" with the master cuemakers

it doesnt even have to be a mini butt
it can be a simple piece of 6'' or 8'' ebony, with a flat section badge, with smooth round ends to both ends, and no joints. meaning , just a piece of wood with a badge!!

    hope this makes sense.

I had a wood extensions before and it warped. Since then I have been staying with non wooden ones.
If you buy only the mini with a certain thread so they will all fit your cue, the badge may still nto line up right when it is screwed on.
Are you saying you are just going to buy the mini, and not use it at all?
How about just get a mini cue made from each cue maker? And have them all displayed in a displayed case after you have say 10 or so.

i wasnt referring to a mini cue

i actually meant getting a finished 8'' ebony butt, cut with a flat section with a badge. literally a block of wood and nothing more.
it cant be used at all. because no end joint is fitted and no threads screwed in.

          OR
i can have a part-of-a-cue kind of thing
just make the end butt, splicings, badge end joint

I don't collect mini butts but i do collect 1, 2 or 3 piece cues, i mainly buy them off ebay, i tend not to pay a lot for them and it does take up quite alot of room.

If space is an issue why not jusy collect butt name plates , you could buy these direct from the cue manufacturer .

                      Interlocking mini butts

Here is my new addition to my mini butt collection.
Three mini butts with 1Klik joints in either end made from one piece of rosewood.
I did also have a set in ebony but I gave them to an interested player

Dan is currently making me an 8 and a 12 inch mini butt that interlock in this fashion... I was going to unvail them when they were done but you beat me to it

My latest idea was interlocking mini butts made out of all different woods... Like a giant multicoloured extension...

I had the original ones made just to see how they worked, then gave them away to Stephen Hendry.
I had these made for myself and it wasn't until I looked at them closely that the grain matches, seems a shame to play with them

Post some picks when Dan makes you the multi wood version!

I'm just getting 2 Pau Rosa ones for now... But in theory I have a 6" tulipwood mini butt, then the 12" pau, then I'd like a purpleheart one, and cocobolo... I have many ideas

So many i'd probably be able to play shots on the next table!!!
