the pros and cons of a 1 piece cue over a 3/4 jointed cue

One pro to a 1 piece cue is you cant loose half of it :snooker:

And the pro to 2 piece is you can change the butt to colour coordinate your clothes.

It's difficult to tell the difference in the 'feel' or hit between a 1-piece and a 3/4-butt cue. The 3/4 was developed for ease of carrying while maintaining the hit of a 1-piece

Here I go again.

2 piece cues good to carry around.
1 piece better feel IMO.
3/4 are difficult to carry and cut into bits; the worst of all worlds.

I do feel 1 piece are better I have one myself. Pros seem to be going for them more now and often cue makers use them you'll find.
They are a pain to carry about. 10 years ago I used to take my cue on public transport, walk the streets with it etc. and 2 piece are great for that. I couldn't have done it with a one piece.
I used my old cue for a week or two in the summer (while my cue has an holiday at Bridgend) I couldn't get over how easy to is to carry a 2 piece cue. I did find that I had to make sure I was clean shaven though coz the hair on my chin snagged on the joint.

3/4 made more sense before SD joints when extensions could go into the them. Not needed any more. For UK pool player can be handy if a mini butt will fit the shaft.

I believe 1/2 or 3/4 are all compromised ways to offer convenience. If you do not have transportation or storage issues, one piece is the best choice.
When I look at the cues used by today's top pro, I see a lot of them using one piece.
Some names that just come to mind are Ronnie O' Sullivan, Shaun Murphy, Ding JunHui, Mark Selby, Wenbo Liang, Steve Davis, ...etc.
One piece hand spliced cue allows the shaft to pass through your grip, and it has less metal components in the cue. Some believe this offers a more true hit and feel. Of course every cue differs and you should try the cue first personally. There are one piece out there that hits like rubbish and 3/4 that hits like a dream I am sure.

a good 1 piece cue feels and sounds completley different than any jointed cue ,, and if your transport fits it or you dont mind carrying one i wouldnt suggest you buy anything else,,

One Piece Cues.

I Prefer One Piece cues personally. The 3/4 cues do look really good, and are easier to travel with. Although a One piece is just a piece of wood with no joints, so less to go wrong with it! Theres nothing worse than having a cue that constantly needs stuff doing to it! I have contemplated treating myself to a handmade cue before, and im certain that it would only be a one piece. Though the truth is that i am just too happy with the cue i've already got! A one piece Powerglide Executive, Fairly light, 10m Ferrule, Straight as a die and rock solid! Who could ask for more from a mass produced cue. I also recently removed all of the thick varnish from the bottom half of it which has given it a new lease of life! Then it was oiled, waxed and is ready to go!!!:snooker:

I use to use a Powerglide Galaxy which is a great cue but the only problem is its a 1/2 and a right stubble catcher it even got nicknamed "The stubble grabber" by team mates.

I now have a 3/4 jointed Cuecraft and most the cues for sale where all 3/4 cut and there wasn't hardly any 1 piece ones for sale in the shop :snooker:
