I would ask the same. Both Parris cues I've owned were top notch, and of the people I know who still own them, have never had a bad word to say about them either. That's custom and non custom versions.

It seems to be popular these days to bash JP cues for some reason. Over priced they might be, but you could say that of any of the premium makers.. I certainly would have no quarms about recommending one to anyone based on quality.

i have owned quite a few parris cues over the years all from new to a 2 piece master, 2classics,superior,traditional a ultimate 925 and they have all been top cues the last 1 i owned was the utimate which i got in november 06 but since then i have seen quite a few owned by mates in the leagues i play in and the quality of the cues over the last year/2 are no where near the quality of the cue's before.

Thanks - maybe that explains it, gone downhill a bit ? - and mine being 15 years old was made by John himself and not by his gang of workers :snooker:

You can have a custom made cue around GBP150+/- with Mastercraft. UK brand also, by the way.

            sorry mate
            but JP cues are

            normal GBP 200-300+
            custom made GBP 340-460

actually i have not tried a JP cue before so i have no right to say its not good.well i think some of the forum members bought those that are made by JP's apprentices and those that are very good are made by JP himself.and they are comparing JP's public relations with other cuemakers like TW AND MW who uses cue quality to promote its cues.whereas JP advertises himself to top pros and sponsor them cues to help him market his brand so he can charge a high price to customers.and until now,not many top pros use JP cues like last time, and as we can see the cue brands among the top 16 has many variations, and i think many people are disillusioned by the fact that if the world no.1 use JP cue means its a good brand,(which is wat JP's marketing strategy is),whereas ronnie can use any cue to play well.If i havent been to this forum,i wont know bout TW and MW AND many other great makers that exist and still thought JP is the best.well all this are a personal opinion, not meant to bash JP cues or discourage current JP owners.

i get a bit tired of the jp bashing sometimes. Ok some people may have genuine reasons to complain, but i get the feeling with some people, they recieve a cue from mike say, and don't like it, the response is always 'its a great cue but it doesn't suit me'. Same thing happens with jp and its 'oh he made me a bad cue'. Not saying this about everyone with a complaint about john parris by any means i just sometimes get this impression.

Thanks for comments - but i think you are still a bit confused over prices - please show me where you can get a JP for £200 ?? The cheapest cue from JP is £277.15 (ie £241 + 'value added tax' of £36.15)

JP is very good @ branding. But, it is hard to say which cuemaker is the best. It is like comparing Mercedez and BMW. Some like Merce, some fancy BMW.

Also, having tried an acuerate in person, i actually have no problem with the cues themselves. I do not like the finish, they are too expensive, and the case and extensions could be far better quality, but i actually liked the cue when i tried it.

opps, i meant that prices are within that range
                          i should say 260 - 300
well i heard many of the forum members say for normal cues you cant go wrong with mastercue, omin, mastercraft, craftsman.

if you have money and patience go for TREVOR WHITE.
if you just have money mayb mike woolridge, robin cook, stamfor, glover cues.in my opinion,as long as you have skill and practice often.any cue will make u a century.

Jokingly Chatlag and I discussed the "IKEA" cue. Plywood shaft to give you perfect straight grain and equal chevrons, Pine butt and MDF splice. Couple of bits of dowel and a little packet of PVA and all sorted
