  • Ferrule Question

    Hi guys.

I recently fitted a new tip to my cue and after taking the old one off I noticed that the top of my ferrule was not perfectly flat. It seems to taper off quite noticeably on one side, perhaps where I have sanded too much before or something. Now when I look at the new tip on there, My eye is immediately drawn to the gap between the tip and the ferrule, it does look quite shoddy!

My question is, does it matter?! Does the top of your ferrule have to be flat or is it just aesthetics and I'm worrying over nothing?!

Tried searching the other threads, didn't see anything similar in there!

    Thanks in advance chaps(and chappetes!)!

IMHO, it has to be as flat as possible mate. Go to this link http://www.thesnookerforum.com/board...ead.php?t=9324. You might get some helps there. All the best.

It's dependant on how badly out of flat it is.

If it isn't too bad, then it's no big deal and as long as the tip is on the cue securely, it should be fine, but, if it's so bad that a tip will not have a bonded surface right around its edge, then that can be more of a problem. The issue with it being very bad is that it can cause the tip to come off regularly, or, not give a clean contact on the white ball, neither of which is exactly ideal.

You may be able to get it flat by scraping it with a stanley blade, but if it's quite bad, then you'd need to grind it flat again and that might not be so easy without the gear to do it.

Thank you both very much for your responses.

I don't think it's too bad, it's not affecting my playing (I think!!!!!!!!), just when I show my team mates my fresh tip, they all ask "who did THAT?!" like it's the grand canyon or something! lol.

The tip is on securely, is nicely shaped and if the ferrule were flat, would look pretty good IMHO. I won't resort to getting the ferrule replaced until it affects the tips ability to stay on I guess.
