I absolutely agree that it is preferrableto buy from a cue maker directly.
But Hunt & Osborne are just the two people: Will Hunt and Robert Osborne. They have a quite small workshop in a rebuilt garage.
And especially Will Hunt is a cue maker legend. So no mass production there.
As I said, I might be wrong. If you ever been to H&O workshop, I will consider they are not "mass production" cuemakers after this. Hopefully you are right about them because I never e-mail them asking about their profiles. Maybe I will do after I get my TW cue

I have been in their workshop in May and they do no mass production.
But honestly I'd buy first Mike Wooldridge before going to Hunt & Osborne at that budget.
John Parris is another great cue maker in my opinion. A lot of people on this forum have very high regard for him and his work, me being one of these people.
I would agree this if it is really JP who make the cue, not by his workers...
I have been to the H&O workshop in London and it really is just Robert and occasionally Will. Both are really nice helpful people with a vast amount of cuemaking experience.

Somehow MW has the highest reputation in TSF for now...that's another thing to consider...craftmanship (the beauty & quality) vs price vs time

Is that in the same location as the Hunt and O'Byrne shop?

NO!! The Hunt & Obyrne shop no longer exists. There were actually two original Hunt & Obyrne shops. They moved from the original shop in Elephant & Castle (London) back in the late 1980s or early 90s and then when they split up and Will carried on making cues he rented space in my friends workshop.

Okay...you still put Hunt & Osborne in your list as per what this thread's idea?

A friend of mine told me he went to London may be in the early 90's to visit Hunt and OByrne. There was a very small table in the shop. He said the guy who was there was quite young, and he wasn't sure if he was Will Hunt or his partner. He purchased a few cues and they were not that expensive, around 200 pounds or so.

H&O black plate series are very expensive now...GBP550 and above...you think?

They are quality cues, just like John Parris Ultimate which also starts at 500 pounds.
I would not say it is too expensive, as it is really very subjective because a lot of it is personal preception. A black plate is all hand spliced and hand made, takes a lot of work and time for him to build one--the price also factors into the cue maker's knowledge, reputation, experience, as well as the solid aftermarket value of the cue...
There are many options so if something is too expensive for you, you can always go buy from someone else--which is kind of the purpose of this thread I started: where will you be spending your money with a particular budget?
