I know that in pool cues, with metal inlays that thick and wide, even if they are being finsihed over, they have a very good chance of raising over time.

If these are not even covered with varnish, then the metal will almost definitely move too much to be completely flash with the cue.

I would say even if you bolt it down, because mteal would move at a different rate than wood due to temperature variation, it will still move too much, especially when it is so wide.

BUT, I have never worked with gold so I am not sure, perhaps gold is more stable than other metal with regard to expansion due to temperature variation?

But I have seen silver rings raise so much it even broke the polyurethane finish before (many times indeed).

I think the way to do it is to cut it a bit more shallower than the pocket and seal it before finishing it over with some very good finish, but even that is not a guarantee, which is why you do nto see very thick metal inalys being used, usually they are very thin.

under £200 - unknown cue maker from ukraine!!! i can see some raised eyebrows here.
              why unknown ???...
first of all he based in ukraine , GOD forgotten land !!!
              2) makes cues as his hobby and in very small quantities ( aprox 20 cues per year with waiting time between 8 to 10 month)
3)makes his living out of his paintings... ive got one for my wedding absolutely stunning pice of art!!! ( sorry for going of topic here)
              4) he mainly makes russian billiard cues, but i don't see being a problem for him to make the cue to your specification but there always another BUT!!!

              ATTENTION!!!
AS BECAUSE THERE NO ELECTRICITY THEREFORE NO PHONES, COMPUTERS OR ANY MEANS OF COMMUNICATION IN UKRAINE , TO GET TO THIS GUY WITH YOUR ORDER YOU WILL NEED TO INVEST SOME MONEY IN GOOD QUALITY WELLINGTON BOOTS, FULLY GROWN MALE BULL FOR GETTING AROUND THERE PLUS AK-47 WITH LOAD OF AMMUNITION TO FIGHT OFF THOSE FREE ROAMING BEARS ON THE STREETS

ive seen some of his work around 9 years ago and as far as i remember the quality of craftsmanship was impressive with splicing similar to Trevs.

£300-400 definitely Trevor White ( actually on order with another 17 weeks to go)

£500 Trevor White or Mike Wooldridge

Money no object - 100 cues from Trevor + 100 cues from Mike with every possible wood combination and splice design
"Life Its the best teacher. And when something fcuk's up there is no undo button" ... D.S!!!

i think its because they are consistantly the best !!

the attention to detail is among the best ( which is what your paying for £££££ )
also the fact that they take the time to post on the forum and help people with there vast knowledge and experience is the reason why people are slightly bias towards them ..imo

Craftsmanship and attention to details make them very sort after.

Although I play with a cue made in my own workshop, but it is always a delight to see excellent craftsman from these master cue makers, who have taken cue making to a new level of artistic prefection. So, if I have the extra money, I will still buy their cues, just to appreciate the admire.

PS, so far, have not seen anyone mention LK.T...come on cueinhand...

Hi montrealer : If I was right, in 2003 my Coach then (Tai Pichit of Thailand) has helped Stephen to fix that problemed cue, until it was back to normal playing condition. Tai told me that the job made him running to many cuemakers, to finally found the one who could do the job....

actually, i did read the FAQ, he showed it to me.

you did mean every word you say.

i love the customer relations bit.

on a personal note. when you upstart your website again, i would like to request you keep that whole paragraph's wording in tact the one with the "personal touch"
