  • Who makes the best cue? or what are the top 3

Who makes the best Snooker cue?
John Parris, Trevor White or someone else.

    AND

What are top three makers at this time?

(curious as a player and as a potential room operator in Sydney)

No one. All the top makers make great cues.
There is no such thing as the best cuemaker (despite what the BBC commentary team was saying earlier about John Parris )

    Top Makers:
    http://www.handmadecues.com/ Mike Wooldridge
Trevor White (does not have a website)
    http://www.robincues.co.uk/ Robin Cook
    https://www.parriscues.com/home.html John Parris
    http://www.stamfordcuemakers.com Stamford Cuemakers
Dan Shelton Totlxtc on this forum. Examples of his work http://s611.photobucket.com/albums/tt193/totlxtc1978/
    etc.

Robert Osbourne Tooting? (Ronnie's current cue)
            Northwest Cues, Freckleton?(Higgins current cue)
Tony Wilshaw, Burslem? (Numerous Pool Pros Potts, Adam Davis etc Dave Harold, Jamie Cope etc using his cues)

I suppose In life you get what you pay for however £500+ is excessive for a piece of wood!, but in relation to other sports £500 for 10-15 years of playing is cheap, golf, fishing etc talking alot of money every couple of seasons. Replacing irons, or new rods etc

Thanks, I'm sure they all do good work but wanted to see if one stood out.
Also why I asked for top 3 (if possible).

Thanks for feedback and web links!

ITs going to be a subjective thing and you'll get answers based on single experiences mostly. Very few people are qualified to actually judge, and its still not cut and dry.

Trevor White for instance would be the first to admit he is not the only one capable of making a great cue. All the pros use various different makers, some even use cues you would not neccesarily associate with professional play, for instance Peter Ebdon uses an old machine spliced rack cue.

As others have already said, very subjective. I would think Tw, Mw, and someone
who as yet not been mentioned but if you read any of his threads this guy must
make a great cue, Keith Auld

Very subjective issue...but this is my vote...

For now (based on my survey about people's comments in TSF) I will put Hunt & Osborne as 3rd best, behind MW (1st) and TW (2nd)...

Dan Shelton should be 4th place in my list... (and I will do my project cue with him next year's March).

                        Done.

On second thought as someone has already mentioned there has been past threads on the best cue, much more extensive with some of the cue makers chirping in on this.
You might want to do a search for those threads.

As stated in the previous thread it would be hard for anyone to pick any best three, because one would have to have several cues in a collection and compare and at the same time have the skill or knowledge to evaluate all of the cues. And also have a ton of money . Some people think Trevor White cues are the best in the world, some say
Mike makes the best cue in the world, John Parris etc.

I own several Parris cues including an older one that has his postal code on the badge which means it was probably made by him. I think the more recent one's may be made by others in his shop. So I would if one likes Parris cues would value the older cue that was actually made by him better then the recent models that may not have been done by him.

I think that if a cue is actually made totally by the maker then that adds to the value. Trevor White does everything himself and I recently got a MAST cue which is the best cue I have ever had. But I have never seen or touched one of Mike's cues so how can I compare the two?

The reason i didn't search for the previous thread on this topic is because it can give you a very biased view. It just ended up with everyone praising the maker of the cue they were actually using.
                            Seemed better to start afresh
