    Looking for a lacquerless cue/nervous about buying online

    Hello all,

    I am after a new cue and was wondering if TSF could lend a hand.

    My requirements are:

    *ash shaft (it must have no lacquer - it has to be silky smooth and I should be able to feel the grains of the ash shaft)

    *real ebony butt (not 'ebonized' as in wood sprayed black)

    *two-piece cue (i.e. centre joint)

    *built to last

    I have got a few on my shortlist and would welcome your input:

    1. Robert Osborne Cues blueplate (~£190 inc VAT)

    I hear he makes good cues but maybe price is a little too much for me. On the other hand, his workshop is within short distance to view/try cues.

    2. Craftsman Cues Classic Series, Legend Cue (£110 inc VAT)

    3. Craftsman Cues Standard Range, 147 Cue (£145 inc VAT)

    For the Craftsman Cues, I would have to order online due to distance and won't be able to view/try.

    From searching on the forum I am aware that cues no. 2 and 3 above look the same but cue no.2 is imported from Thailand (oil-finish?) and cue no.3 is made in-house (wax finish?). Would I be happy with cue no.2?

    I welcome other suggestions (the more the merrier) but would prefer price to be below £200.

    Welsh pool trading has some cues on ebay atm

      Thanks for the suggestion but I am currently looking for centre jointed cues.

          There seems to be quite a lot of cue snobbery regarding craftsman cues. I have seen and played with both wax and oil finished cues from them and both are excellent.

              Thanks for your input, will consider Craftsman again after asking if Welsh Pool Trading could do a centre jointed cue (I like WPT's base joints).
