Hello everyone,
I guess I would consider my self rather lucky to join such a great community right before buying myself a cue.
Your wisdom and experience is kindly requested.
My little story is that when I actually thought of buying a new cue, I was looking for something handmade, good quality and most importantly, unique elegant design. I came across a website which had many many links to websites that make both pool and snooker cues listed from A-Z.
The one site that really caught my attention was Dunn's cues. To be honest I fell for their cue under the name: Malachi
I showed my friend the cue and their website and he also was impressed by their nice cues, unique yet very simple and straight to the point. My friend fell for one of their cues called: Marble
We were both finalizing our decisions when I recently joined this forum and came across the thread: dunns cues: http://www.thesnookerforum.com/board...t=19966&page=3
TBH the thread completely devastated me as some members reckoned simply that their cues are HORRIBLE!
The guy at Dunn's called Vernon was supportive and prompt, I admit he did irritate me once, when I was asking him too many questions he said if you are worried, why not get a John Parris? I replied rudely and said, it's good to see how welcoming you are by turning your customers to other Cue makers. Other than that, he sounded so confident about their products and pasted me an email by one of their customers sounding SOO HAPPY about his Malachi.
He also attached a picture for a Malachi and the wood looked really good at the side.
I am completely lost and confused, the idea of a new cue got stuck in my head and there is no way I back off, however which cue? I don't know anymore. I was so close of ordering the Malachi till I saw that thread.
Any advices? I saw nice cues on the forum which many members recommended and worshiped their quality, how ever TW, H&O and other brands are so expensive, 128 pounds + shipping sounded very reasonable, 500 GBP is just too much.
In Bahrain we have no cues other than O'min, Master and CHEAP REPLICA John Parris cues! Nearly 50% of Bahraini snooker players use cheap fake JP's.
I played with a O'min Climax, costs 150 Bahraini Dinars (260 GBP) which is a lot to me, however the balance of the cue, the weight and all seemed just perfect.
Should I go with a used proper cue? Should I proceed with the Malachi? Or do those top cue makers (Mike Wooldridge, H&O, TW etc...) offer reasonably cheap cues, yet the quality is not bad?
I would really appreciate your advice guys.
Thanks in advance.
