  • New cues-need advice please.

Well my mum and dad have said that i can have a new cue for christmas, although it will only have to be around £30 maximum as im having many other things. So, which of these snooker cues from the argos would you recommend to me?

Not sure which, so which would you go for?

Its really down to your own personal preference mate, I have had about a dozen mass produced cues over the past 15 years or so. I tend to go with 3/4 jointed cues as the fittings arent absolutely perfect at the joins which ment I caught my chin a few times with 1/2 jointed ones when playing.
Back at snooker after many years away.

    Highest Match Break 53.
    Highest Practise Break 78.

Well thats the trouble mate, most is about 30 quid, i just want one that will do the job. So the 3 jointed one there would probably be the best choice?

Don't want to be miserable but I wouldn't bother with these.
Look second hand so your money might go further.
What region do you live in?

If you have to get one of those, then just pick the one you like the look of the most.

If you can hold on until after christmas and use any money you may get over christmas then i'd advise you to get one of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Brand-new-Cue-...item3ca804e506

ADR is a member on here but he's away until after christmas, but this cue would be alot better than any Rileys/BCE cue.

My current cues knackered lol. Ive already had some new fishing reels, a workout bench and stuff like that so it was either out of a dart board or a new cue. Think i may go for the dartboard then and save up myself for a good cue. Meanwhile, just use my dads 40 year old one

your dad's 40 years old one might be a lot better than the varnished bce broom handle

lol, probably is, im going for a game later with it. Its a ray readen, feels pretty nice actually. The thing is ive had to bodge a tip on but it should do the job. Sounds like i shouldnt bother with the argos cues lol, you've made my mind up, im defo waiting till after christmas and getting a decent cue for around £50

I just wanted to point out that there is (almost) no reason to CHANGE to such a cheap cue from another one.

that's the very basic beginner's level, so why take a step back?

as you have some sort of 'backup' cue, use that one

I dont understand what you've just said. So you mean no point changing to another cheap cue, because it will be the same as what i had(the cuecraft)?

                          about, yeah.

i can only figure out the following reasons to buy such a cheap cue:

                          - you've never had a cue before and it should be your very first one
                          - you want to test your cue manufacturer's skills and need something to mess around with
                          - you were very happy with one, but that one was damaged and you'll give 'em another go.

if you already HAVE a cue:
                          - why go back to something cheaper?
                          - if it's such a cheap one, why not keep it?
                          - if you want to get a better one, don't spend money on a replacement, meaning "new cheap" = better than "old cheap". stay with the old one you're used to. or spend more.

right, thanks ALOT for the help mate. Will wait for a while then and try and get mine sorted soon. Rekon about £50 should get me a decent cue then?

                              Answer.....NO.....

A 50 quid cue will be no better than the argos 1's fella. Maybe ask your parents if they can keep hold of the money or if you can have the cash instead and put it away towards a decent cue instead of just making do with a dart board. will give you an incentive to get the rest of the cash together and will be a lot easier for you having a bit of a headstart on the cash front instead of starting from nowt...

A little over 100 quid and you will get a tidy hand made cue. have a little look here... www.welshpooltrading.co.uk
