Knackered my cue up trying to re-tip it!

Well, the other day my tip was loose so i took it off with a stanley knife and i accedentilly made the ferrule uneven so ive sanded it down as its kinda ok, the only trouble is that the tip sticks up at the sides, which obviously means the sides are slanted outwards. But anyway, the main problem is the bloody tip. I got some BBE 10mm tips and they are terrible. The bottom wasnt straight AT ALL so i tried to sand it down and its still not perfect. Also, the top is wonky so basically they are ****. The thing is, i wanted to go for a game of snooker today, but ive knackered my cue up and the tips are ****. BOOO HOOO

I saw your other thread about a new cue.
What type of cue was this and do you like it?
There are loads of people who could put you another ferrule on.
Plus never use any tip cheaper than elk

Don't know if I'm too late or not but here's a solution for you.

First of all, buy a decent tip even if it happens to be Elk Master. Secondly, go to your nearest hardware store (I forget the term used in Britain) and buy yourself a fine file used for filing metal and a sheet of fine sandpaper.

Now, using the fine file, very carefully file the top of your ferrule until it's flat. You can check this by laying the file on the top of the ferrule and moving it around slowly in a circle and see if it 'dips' in any area. Make sure the wood inside the ferrule and the ferrule itself is absolutely flat.

Take the tip and gently sand the bottom of it by putting a piece of sandpaper on the file and making the bottom of the tip absolutely flat. Put the tip on the cue first and check that everything is flat and tight-fitting.

Now, take some Super Glue Gel and install tip. You should get a tip size that is 1mm larger than your ferrule, so if you have a 9.5mm ferrule, then a 10mm tip will do. If you have a 10mm tip then buy an 11mm tip so you have a little room for error.

That should do it

This cues a cue craft, not sure what model, but its red. My mum won it on a raffle, it was new. Not sure if its a dear model or what, but ill try and sort it. Oh, and thanks terry, ill try that one of the days. But for now ive bodged together my dads cue to play today. Its a ray readan, about 40 year old i think but it will do the job for today:snooker:
