as anyone on here will tell you, a well made machine spliced cue is always better than a poorly made handmade one. The handmade craftsman does look beautiful but as to whether it will make any difference, impossible to say. Every cue in the world handmade or machine made plays differently and different feeling cues suit different people. 3 of the players in my team use well made machine spliced cues and all 3 of them have made multiple century breaks!

i'd have said definitely so, thinking about giving one a go myself to be honest. My advice would be go for the victor burr, 9.5 tim and 18 or 18.5 oz. The cue will be ten times better than anything you have ever used with laquer. If then one day when you're not on such a tight budget, maybe get a custom designed cue from welshpool or craftsman but to be honest, if you look after it, there is no reason why the victor burr won't last you for years to come!

The best way to find a cue you really like is to buy one, play with it for a while, then try something else if you're not convinced. Eventually you'll have a pretty good idea what kind of cue you prefer. The only trouble here is if you go about this by buying new, premium cues, it'll be an expensive learning curve! (hence why several of my mates now play with my ex cues at half the original cost!).

The reason I'd suggest a 2nd hand cue, is because bar the postage, you'll lose nothing if the cue turns out to not suit you well by just re-selling it and buying another one to try.
Ive just ordered the Victor red and blue (the only cue with no picture) i googled it to see what it looked like and found one on E-bay sold for £48 in november, without the mini butt, As the mini butt costs £11.50 by its self, its almost the same to buy it new for £63,with the free mini butt !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wow, the one on ebay looks real nice if its exactly the same as the one they sell for £63. Now its a difficult choice out of the two for me, but im going to the shop in the next few days to get one so i will choose then

Mate good call, forget ebay if you have a chance to go to the shop.

And don't worry about what the folks say, mine were exactly the same when I was a young bloke, but they didn't know how much I liked the game. Good cues always pay for themselves in the form of prizemoney or at least enjoyment when you play at the local club. The finish alone will make a huge difference over a 30 quid Riley cue.
