  • 3/4 butt jointed cue's - butt joint/balance point length

I was just wondering what the most common dimension at the joint of a 3/4 cue was?

My old cue was 12" but to be honest it made it quite butt heavy, my current cue from paul at welsh pool trading is 16" to the joint which has nice balance.

Most common seems to range from 12" to 16", but to my eye theres a couple of pro's cue's that look like they have a longer butt than that.

Jimmy White, Mattew Stevens, Steve Davis & Ronnie's old 3/4 he won his first world with all look like they have a longer butt joint than anything you can buy standard.

Is there a reason for this?
And does anyone on here have a cue with similar dimensions to these and how do you find it?

    Cheers

    Derek:

I'm pretty sure if you order a custom 3/4-butt you can specify exactly where you want the joint to be. I once ordered a short one from B&W, about 10" from the end of the butt, but as you mentioned it turned out to be a bit butt heavy.

I think most are around 15"-16" but even when I look at pictures of 3/4-butt cues in a rack on the web, I do notice a difference in height of the joint.

If you want a good 3/4-butt with a joint you can't even see then PM poolqjunkie on here as I have one of his Aurora cues and it's very hard to see the joint in the ebony. An excellent custom cue.

I emailed mastercraft a few days back about having a cue made and when i asked if the Joint could be at 12" like my current cue, Dave said "yes, we can put the joint wherever you want it"

So i presume with most cue makers you can specify where you want it within reason! 12" from the tip is probably not gunna happen
