  • Straightening a bent cue

I noticed today that one of my rack cues has got quite an interesting shape. Bananaesque is perhaps a suitable term.

Is there a simple way of straightening it or is it firewood?

Actually the rest and spider are both on similar low quality cues so I can just swap the heads and tips but I would like to try to straighten it if possible just to see if I can.

Perhaps try leaning it against the wall every night so that it bends in the other direction?

Other than that I don't think there's much you can do with it. Trying to force it straight by bending it with your hands may make it snap.

There was a thread about straightening a cue a while back, ill see if i can find it. I think they were hanging weights off the cue hoping to straighten it but i can't remember.

      EDIT: found it

Most cue makers will straighten a cue just fine. Dave at craftsman turned my boomerang into a playable cue for me last year, so I've sent him a few more to play with at the moment.

Thank you for the advice so far. The stick is a very cheap one so I might support it at the 2 ends and could slide a small weightlifting disc over it so as to press down where needed. If it ends up worse I haven't lost much.

The funny part is how I discovered the bend. I had a game with a colleague last night. I picked up my cue to take upstairs to the table and invited him to grab one for himself. He picked one at random and went with me. I put both cues in the rack and racked the balls. He picked up mine by mistake but I didn't worry as my game is so bad it scarcely matters. Well I thought I was just in bad form when I lost game 1 having had a break of 13 as the acme of my performance. Then I happened to look at the cue I had been using...................

A bent cue can be straightend by steaming it over a kettle or pot of boiling water and the use a little force to bent the cue in the opposite direction...but be very carefull with both the boiling water and of course the cue.
