Really not a good idea mate. The residue can get on the wood and stain it. I take it you were lucky. better to steer clear of any fluids.

Autosol Metal Polish,it can stay more longer...but use it careful!

i find some polishing cloth on the net those are 6000 & 8000 grip

a few drops of orange oil on some 0000 grade wire wool works a treat!
