Adding to this, this ash wood has been hanging in UT's stock for quite a long time (same with the ones going for Brendan and Freddie, and Sanman, and a lot others). I think it's the weather and the time that made your shaft a darker looking wood.
    It's in the Shaft

HAHAHA wth i spent over a minute looking at it your pic, perving, then u tell me its a guy. LOL

im more than happy with the cue unclevit! happy.. umm whats more than happy? ecstatic? lol

he truly is a gifted craftsman, shame he is only now getting his own name out on his work. makes me wonder, who else in the world is playing with an uncle thai cue, but dont know it yet.

i was going to say, this sort of ash seems pretty rare. i mean, i pretty much play with as many peoples cue's as i can whenever i get the chance, but, havnt seen wood like this before.

i showed it to my friend aziz, owns a snooker hall down in st kilda (anyone visits melbourne australia, come down. ill shout a game or 5 and he just picked it up and was more than impressed with the feel of the cue. i also played snooker with it. wow the feedback, the feeling i get with every shot is amazing. NO deflection at all. use to be horrible, deflection when trying to break, but this time, it feels great. get great screw back from half length of the table! its definitely a keeper, for life never going to sell this cue.

thanks heaps again. cant thank you enough

I beg to differ Bulkie. I use an elk master on a $50 snooker cue and I can draw back on the white ball a full length table no problems. So it is really a personal choice of what tip you use, how you shape your tip and the size etc. If your using an elk master at the moment there really is no need to start changing your equipment so fast, would just lead to more adjustments to your cueing due to the tip.

Im getting my UT cue very soon (end of feb - early march), a replica of the Mike Wooldridge CC2 but with some big changes to the original (standard MW) specs of the cue. Can't wait to get my cue, its been a while since I have owned a deceant cue.

Will post on my cue when it arrives...
            Regards,

            Andrew M. Humphries

You are right BoB. When I started to play, nearly all cues were only 16.5oz. I only ever saw one that was heavier and it was 18oz, was a snooker hall cue with no splicing.

Oh thats cause i had just trimmed the tip and it was all fluffy on the sides (majour mushrooming from my first session) but when i changed the tip, i burnished the sides of the tip and ferrule and now its all shiny n nice =]

Well everyone loves a good elk I'd agree.

However, outta a pack of 50 elks, how many good ones do you get? It's too inconsistent.

few handspliced ones, nothing in great condition. restored enough so u can play with them, but nothin in good condition. some hav badges. i guess if u take down the shaft and stuff, turn it into 8.5 or 9 mm tip could be good for pool. but otherwise, not worth much id say.
