OK! So recently, i just recieved my uncle thai cue. The wait was approx 2 months, but thats because Uncle Thai went away for a few weeks over the holiday period (christmas, new years) which makes sense.
Ive only played pool with it, not snooker yet, and the cue has been excellent.
first note id like to make is the shaft. you can definitely tell the shaft is mature, with possibly the tightest straight grains on a cue ive seen. and the grain is dark, to the point it looks like its been printed on! not only is it stiff, with a nice springy action, it is very dry and hard. even with a bit of hand sweat, when you wipe it, there is no residue or anything. the finish on the cue is exceptional. smooth head to butt, with the only noticeable thing you can feel when closing your eyes is the joint, and the grain of the ash.
Im not going to write in depth about how it plays, as i havnt had time on a snooker table, but on a pool table, it hits wonderfully. the cue feeds back well, almost no deflection with deep side. can really feel the shot to emphasize control. i can get really good spin with it.
Specs are as follows!:
57.5 inches long
9.2mm tip
3/4 cut at 14 inches up
balanced at 17 inches up
16.5 ounches
28mm butt diameter.
ebony splices, maple veneer and maple front splice.
being balanced at 17 inches, with a weight of 16.5 ounces, it feels great. very good balance of being able to accelerate it for extra cue power, without losing the feel of control on the bridge.
overall im very happy with the cue. even some of the top players ive shown the cue to hav been very impressed. Ben nunan (australias number 1 pool player) was more than impressed with the quality, not believing i got it for that price, with the only negative comment being it was too light for him to play comfortably with it.
I bought 2 cue's from Unclevit, but im only going to show 1, as the other cue is my brothers. (known as knox, on the forum)
i also was given a free 6 inch minibutt, and i ordered a 18 inch Omin telescopic extension to go with it! and thankfully, the pouch and the extension match my red lining of the case
Here ill take u through details of my whole kit, cue, case, everything inside. enjoy!
ok, this first pic is of my entire kit. the case is from an old cheap eddie charlton cue i bought from my friends uncles company, who owns the eddie charlton brand rights (billiards.com.au). i modified the case by taking out the original divider, and putting in FOAM from a cheap aluminium case that fell apart on me, that i got with my MYX cue. the foam fits perfectly, and i cut out more bits of foam to divide things up, because i dont like the idea of things bumping up against each other. bit anal, but it works.
Now in detail as i remove the layers:
underneath the 4 chalks, i keep the cue cube and superglue. as u can see. cubes used for emergency scuffing (more for american pool cues but, it works well on pro granite tips as theyre very hard, just incase i dont hav sandpaper). to the side of that i keep a Razor, used for trimming tips. next to the blade is 2 spots for tips, just incase the case of pro granite tips runs out. i hav 1 pro granite left see I also keep 2 pieces of sand paper, 15 by 8 cm (approx?) under the foam, but i forgot to take them out to take photos of it. the sandpaper is wet/dry metal/wood and is 120 grit.
above that i keep my chamois cloth (thankyou unclevit for this, it works a treat on th shaft ) and my pouch! which is unneccessary, but fun. beats making my pockets blue
OK! now moving onto the actual cue. the design is how i intended. all the splices are even, the splicings are crisp and exactly how i wanted them. A+++ for that Uncle thai!
now moving onto the shaft: the front of it has a few arrows running up, but i dont care too much for it cosmetically. its how it works for me :P
the back has a few 'eyes' on it. also not fussed! very tight grain, and very well processed ash. loving the finish on it
And thats it. you guys know my tools now! hope u enjoyed looking in my case
note: will post about how it plays in depth, comparitively, when i get more time with the cue on a snooker table.
