  • Best Wood for looks and feel?

I am wondering, what is the best wood for a cue?
Obviously looks wise, but I'm thinking in terms of feel also. Im sure woods with different textures feel different even after they are finished? Right?!
I know this is gonna be a personal preference thing, but just after any suggestions as to whats best
    Highest Match Break - 77
    Highest Practice Break - 101, 106, 111
    Highest Breaks of 2010 - 76-65-62-61-60-60-59-57

Act they are many many many kinds of wood that's best/nice for a cue.
Depends on your budget also, some exotic/rare wood are very nice. Look for cuemakers like Dan.. Mike to help you with the woods
Try use the search button to browse to old thread that some user have post their cue pictures there.
      For example: http://www.thesnookerforum.com/board...ad.php?t=12545

I personally like, ebony, burl ebony, cocobola, stripe maple and red pyooyang wood

Rosewood personally. Best playing feel, looks nice. Very very underated. Some of the best cues i have played with are rosewood. I think alot of the cuemakers will agree.

My personal favourite is Maccassar, it feels and looks fantastic.

Other good woods are Becote, cocobolo and snakewood.

To follow on from what totlxtc said a cue maker I knew fro Southport called Dave White once told me that the best timber for a the butt of the cue is Rosewood, he couldnt understand why everybody wanted Ebony instead.
Just because its old, doesn't mean its worth a fortune!!

I personally think african blackwood has a far better feel than ebony, or anything for that matter. However the answer is subjective to the individual.

I can tell you it will be Ebony that will come up top. Because its traditional and its what people are used to seeing. But one day Ebony will be such a high price for pure black, that may change.

i actually meant for your splices, cos ultimately, if ur holding the end of the cue ur holding the spliced wood not the ebony... unless u have ebony base.
i am thinking along the lines of a light coloured wood too...
i currently think olivewood would be the best, but not sure what the feel is like?
