The container just says Green Baize. Not sure if they actually make them or just supply them.
Oh, and that's a bad miss.

Does anybody know if it is ok to sand down the bottom of the tip so that it is not so big or will this damage the bottom and cause it to not stick properly when glued?

Yes that is not a problem , you can even cut the bottom off with a stanley knife to the desired height if you want . Finish off with smooth sandpaper to achieve a nice clean even finish .

The feeling similar to MW supertip, not too hard ,but there are some hair come out when I shaped with rough sandpaper. After reshaped with fine sandpaper the hair disappeared. Its worth to try.
When I used to play with Elks, this sometimes happened so I would briefly lick a cigarette lighter flame over the tip to singe the hairs off!

Use lighter flame to burn the hair will make the surface uneven, I prefer use fine sand paper

Hairs appear when you disturb the fibres too much , just use a finer paper and you,ll be fine .
